Bargains at St. Vincent de Paulís NO ONE KNOWS how it ended up in the catch-all bin, but there it is: an orange-yellow-red knitted sweater with a slight aura of smoky angora. Starting from the bottom, the sweater’s colors blend from red to orange to yellow on its shoulders. It looks autumnal but it’s hard not to imagine its wearer about to catch fire. One elbow has a ragged hole, as if its wearer had rested hard on it while making one phone call after another. Perhaps a teenage girl used to wear it a lot during the fall when snow often came early and unwanted.
