Molly IN THE MINESHAFT anything can happen in the dark far below. It isn’t the kind of hell that the church folks like to describe, but its trapdoor opens quickly if you’re not careful. A cart, so heavy with raw ore, can topple and jam the rails and knock one of the support beams asunder. Anything can happen, including death. These men know full well what they are getting into, especially those who’ve crossed the Atlantic Ocean to arrive here.
