VICKI EMERGED WITH her blonde curls piled in a new fashion, and perfume, and—even in the midst of the excitement—free samples for little Ginny. Tomboy Jean was allowed to keep her cropped hair style. Charmion was smartened up and looked happier. They agreed that the most transformed of all was Dot Crowley: correct hair-do and an improved attitude (thanks to Charmion) softened Dot’s willful jaw and made her more likable.
