From Evelyn’s Perspective
Kane noticed the change in my expression and raised an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong? Karen is here?”
I lifted my eyes to him, sharp with suspicion.
“You knew he would come all along?”
Kane smiled, his tone certain.
“Of course. He’s had his eye on your parents’ warehouse for ages. How could he stay away when he knew you’d be here? But don’t worry — with me here, he can’t hurt you.”
His voice was confident, his gaze unflustered, as if everything unfolded exactly as he planned.
I stared at him, and the scale in my heart slowly tipped toward him.
Right now, I had no choice but to trust him temporarily and deal with Karen first.
“Fine. I agree to work with you,” I breathed deeply, my gaze firm.
“But I have conditions.
First: you will not interfere with my revenge. Karen and Sky — I will deal with them with my own hands.
Second: you will not covet my space, nor will you harm anyone close to me.
Third: during our partnership, we stay out of each other’s private business.”
Kane nodded, agreeing readily.
“Done. If you help me get the confidential file, I’ll accept all your terms. Now, we need to get ready. Karen will be here any minute.”
He signaled his men to hide, then walked to a corner of the warehouse and pointed at an old crate.
“The confidential document is in that box. Go get it. I’ll handle Karen.”
I nodded and hurried over, opening the crate.
Inside was a sealed envelope and a small USB drive.
I stored both in my space. As soon as I turned around, hurried footsteps echoed from the warehouse entrance, along with Karen’s voice.
“Evelyn! So you are here! Hand over everything in this warehouse, and your assets too — or you’ll regret it!”
I looked up to see Karen walking in with Sky and several large, tough men.
Sky still wore my cream-white dress, but her former gentle act was gone, replaced by arrogance and greed burning in her eyes.
“Karen, so this is why you really came,” I sneered, dripping with contempt.
“You lied to me about transferring assets, faked your love for me… all for my parents’ things and my money, isn’t that right?”
Karen’s disguise shattered instantly, replaced by raw greed and cruelty.
“Since you know everything, I won’t beat around the bush. Evelyn, be smart. Hand over the warehouse, your fortune, and the ring on your finger, and I might let you die whole.”
“Let me die whole?” I laughed bitterly, malice in my eyes.
“Karen, are you really that naive? This time, *you’re* the one who has to pay your debts.”
At that moment, Kane stepped out of the shadows, staring coldly at Karen.
“Karen Hayes. Have you forgotten this is not a place for you to run wild?”
Karen’s face paled at the sight of Kane, shock and terror flashing across his features.
“Kane Rossi? What are you doing here? What’s your connection to Evelyn?”
He clearly knew him — and feared him.
“You don’t need to know what we are,” Kane sneered.
“All you need to understand is that as long as I’m here, you won’t lay a finger on her, let alone take anything from this warehouse.”
Karen’s face turned red then white.
He glanced at Kane, then at me, knowing he was no match. But he refused to give up what he thought was already his. After a few seconds of hesitation, he gritted his teeth.
“Kane Rossi, this has nothing to do with you. Mind your own business, or you’ll be sorry.”
“Sorry?” Kane scoffed, utterly dismissive.
“With you and these useless thugs you brought?”
Before he finished speaking, Kane’s men charged from the corners and clashed with Karen’s group.
The warehouse descended into chaos — screams, fighting, crashing furniture all blending together. The dim light made the brawl even more brutal.
Seeing the tide turn, Karen tried to slip away, but I blocked his path.
