107. The Possible Thought

1018 Words

Killian approached the side of the bed where Anna was still lying, showing no signs of waking up anytime soon. Despite that, Killian stayed seated in the chair he'd placed next to the bed, his eyes fixed on Anna's pale face as the transfusion continued. Guilt gnawed at him for everything that had happened. His hands trembled as he reached out to touch Anna's limp hand. He couldn't tell if it was from the anesthesia used during the surgery or if Anna just didn’t have the strength to move even a fingertip. "Hey, I'm sorry," Killian whispered, bringing Anna's hand to his forehead. The guilt this time was far heavier than when they lost their baby. Back then, Anna was still okay—not as weak as now, not lying helpless and drained of blood after an attack that should have been aimed at him.
