CHAPTER 4 - Mama Visited Me

"Come out, little girl. The Lycan beta doesn't like to be kept waiting." A guard dragged me from the servant's quarters through the rough castle grounds and threw me over his shoulder when I refused to move. "No.' I whimpered. I was in rags that were so torn in several places that they barely hid any skin. Every single part of my body was covered with bruises and scratches and blisters. Most of them were still fresh. Living in Father's house was paradise compared to this hell. I would do anything to go back, even if it meant cutting off my arm. "No! Pick me." Greta, the tall, quiet redhead from the Night blood pack and the oldest of us all jumped up and declared. Everyone stared at her, shocked. There were twenty-two of us and I was his latest addition to his harem of mistresses. No, not "mistresses", s*x slaves. According to the rumors, we were supposed to be twenty-six. Four died. We were his harem of s*x slaves. I'm sure most of them were happy that I was the one he was obsessed with at the moment. I can't blame them, they've all had equally miserable lives and were kicked out of their packs, the only home they ever knew, to the smelly dark walls of the Lycan beta Darius' "servant quarters", which was really his personal whorehouse. I was the sacrificial lamb to them. I had to be forcefully sacrificed for them to have a tiny glimmer of peace. One night, I overheard a blonde female with a long scar running along the right side of what would have been a stunningly beautiful face. She was praying in soft whispers to The Moon Mother. She prayed that the Lycan beta would leave me alive enough and beautiful enough to go another day. This is why we were all shocked when Greta, who we all met here and is supposed to know better, spoke up on my behalf. "Pick. Me." Greta repeated emphatically. "I'm afraid, my lady, but the Lycan beta asked for her specifically." She rushed and stood in front of him. "Please, pick me instead. The girl is half-dead." She fell on her knees, hands clasped in front of her. He kicked her from his path, "Both our heads will be on spikes if I let that happen. Try to stop me again and I'll kill you myself." She looked up at me and met my eyes from where I was hung up on the guard's shoulder with an unreadable emotion in her eyes. "Try not to die." She mouthed silently and walked back to her spot, never once turning her back. I stared blankly at her retreating form. Something didn't feel right. The guard dropped me like a sack of potatoes at the feet of Beta Darius in his chambers. He smiled when he saw me, but it was a feral smile that chilled me to the bone. His lips were peeled back to reveal a row of sharp fangs and his eyes glinted with malice as he stared lustfully at me, promising me another long night of torture. "Leave us." He told the guard who brought me. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes as he locked the metal doors behind him. All alone with the devil. He buried his snout in my hair, "Mmmm." He growled lowly in a way that made my skin crawl. "Yours might be my favorite scent of all of them." He sniffed deeply again while my eyes were still clamped shut as I laid stiffly on the floor, trying not to feel anything. I heard him snarl before he pounced on me, shredding what little remained of my rags as he viciously and more painfully thrusted in and out of me. I screamed again and again, pleading for help. The pain was too much. Raw, liquid pain ran through my insides as his claws dug deeper into my back, drawing blood with each forceful thrust. I kept my eyes shut all this time, muttering under my breath in-between screams, "You are fine, Freya. You are really not here. You are far, far away with Mama, so you're alright." I felt a tug on my eyelids and my eyes fluttered open to find a dark figure watching us from a corner across the room. Watching me. I was sure of it. The dark figure looked familiar. Felt familiar. Her white hair danced wildly as if ghosts played with the strands and I struggled to get a glimpse of her face. Suddenly a sweet, melodious voice sang in my head, loud and clear, "Keep quiet and stop screaming like some sick w***e. Just smile for me darling. You have to look perfect for me, my baby. So smile, you're safe now." I sniffled and my screams died in my throat. A single tear rolled down my cheek as I smiled the widest I'd ever smiled in my life. For the first time in my life, I was happy, "Yes, mama," I whispered. Beta Darius groaned and rolled off me breathing heavily. It was quiet for a full minute. I stood frozen on the floor with my smile still in place. Beta Darius watched me curiously. "What happened? No running off?" He laughed wryly. "You must be getting used to this since you didn't make much of a fuss today. That's good. You must have enjoyed yourself too. I mean, look at you smiling. Maybe you enjoyed tonight a little too much." He sighed and picked a stray hair from my face and twirled it around his finger. "Miracles either do happen or you're one very dirty little minx who has been pretending like you aren't one all this while. " He smirked at me, then sauntered off to grab his robe, leaving his naked backside in full display. "Great job b***h. Keep going like this and you might just become my favourite pet." He ruffled my hair and as he was about to leave the room, he turned to look at me. "Stay here as long as you want. That's your business, but before you leave, clean this place till it's sparkly clean and do something about the smell. Put some flowers or whatever." He slammed the door shut behind him. I sighed and laid back down on the hardwood floor with a contented smile on my face. "Mama, you don't know how happy I am that you came for me. I've waited so, so long for you. Can you come pick me up now? Are you still there? Can you hear me? Where are you? What should I do now?" No response. "Mama?" Still no response. I waited a few more seconds and tried again, my voice shaking, "Mama?" Birds chirped in the distance, water dripped from the leaking faucet in his bathroom, guards were marching on patrol, some girl squealed from somewhere far away but the voice… The only voice I wanted to hear was not among any of these noises. My heart dropped like a stone to my stomach, and I felt all the air leave my lungs. I sat there, frozen, my mind blank and my emotions numb. I felt nothing. I have to leave. I took three long breaths and exhaled deeply. My fists were clenched so tightly that they turned white. I knew what I had to do. By midnight, I'd run away. If I die, I die.
