“I don’t know. They don’t know.” Pam ran both hands through her hair. “Detective Hall said if she drowned, her lungs would be full of water. But they’re not. That means, technically, she asphyxiated.”
Danny propped his elbows on the counter. “Meaning what exactly?”
“They don’t know yet.”
“Asphyxiation can be anything that blocks breathing,” said Harry. “Smothering, choking— Do they have the coroner’s report?”
“Not yet.”
“Why did she want you to know this?”
“She didn’t. But I made her promise last night to call me.”
“Sounds to me very fishy,” stated Rita. “A girl is dead in the water? She drowned.”
“Rita has a point,” said Phyllis. “What’s the alternative?”
