Meeting with the Clan Chief
The sign on the wall read Imperial Office of the Fifth Sector Urban Drainage and Waste Disposal. Even after being made Clan Chief, Brätan Gok had retained his sector office, and if one wished to make an appointment, this was how it was done.
After checking yet again that no one was following, Duvät presented himself to the front desk.
An elderly archangel peered up at him. “Yes?”
He cleared his throat. “I want to see Brätan Gok.”
“Oh, yes …” The clerk’s long fingers wrapped like vines around his stylus. He stared at the page before him.
“Brätan Gok, the Clan Chief?” Duvät prompted.
“Brätan Gok, you say?”
