Abduction
Except for the ashessé’s occasional change of posture, nothing moved on the empty street. There were few trees to attract wildlife, no gardens. Each house was much the same – flat topped, two story, butted up against its neighbor on one side and with a narrow alley on the other. Some roof-spaces were shared and sported colorful awnings, but the house Lucaät’s agent watched had no such enrichment. The front door opened directly onto the cobbles, and two black-clad ashessé stood like ebony pillars guarding either side.
