Pilot John, the Governor of Venus, returned shortly afterwards. Normally such a journey was supposed to take at least several months at a time. However, it was completed within a few hours that day.
Everyone was focused on Peter's departure and seemed oblivious to the passage of time. People generally perceived him as some sort of magician, a guru, or even a superman. They expected miracles of him.
So, John landed at the spaceport in his shuttle, seemingly distraught, bereft, and out of his element. However, this was not due to the flight deck's filtered and conditioned air, flowing through nozzles and orifices. Now he was ready to take the flak: “to dive into the water headfirst”.
