The two youngish couples arrived a day early, just in time for the official meeting. Thus, they were able to enjoy the Earth's atmosphere and adjust to its climate beforehand.
They were breathing in the fresh morning air with delight—unlike the artificially filtered and conditioned one elsewhere. In fact, they were already fed up with the gags and masks, as well as the protective gear against space radiation and cosmic rays, while spending time outdoors on Mars.
