Meeting "Him"

1032 Words
Licia's POV I couldn't believe what they just said. The words hit me like a thunderbolt. I was getting married, it sounded like a silly joke. I stood surrounded by the faces I grew up with, and I began to wonder if I knew them. I felt like a stranger, as my eyes widened in disbelief, and a hollow laugh soon escaped my lips. “Is this a joke?” I asked, looking around, my voice not familiar to me. But Mum, with her glinting eyes, spoke the words that shattered my world. "You are getting married to the Lycan Alpha, he'd be here to pick you up tomorrow morning, you need to wear that white gown." She declared with a finality that brooked no argument. “Start preparing yourself. The ceremony is tomorrow." I could only find cold resolve in her voice. How could she do this to me? Maybe this was a prank. “Do you mean what you said?" She sighed impatiently. "You're to be married tomorrow to Lycan Alpha Lucas, that's the only way to stop him from attacking us and his family's alliance will be most beneficial for the growing community." “What? Mother, are you sacrificing me to a beast I barely know?" I protested. "And I have no desire to marry anyone, let alone a stranger." But her eyes hardened. "Do not question my judgment, Licia, a beast, gets married to his kind.” She added, backing me. “You should be grateful that a powerful man is willing to marry you.” "Grateful? What mother sells her child?” I asked not knowing where the boldness came from. “That's because you're not my daughter. I can never have an ugly child like you.” She added as I gasped in horror. My life and identity have been a lie. I watched as Chloe flashed me a smile and whispered, “That's why I've always hated you, you're just my half-sister, you don't belong here, you ought to be dead.” Soon they swept from the room without a backward glance, leaving me with the strange lady. I stared after them, struggling to process what had just occurred. Marriage...to a man who was a fairytale. It didn't seem real. I laughed, a touch of hysteria coloring the sound. This had to be some sort of nightmare. I decided to confront Dad but was stopped by the lady. “You can't leave the room.” She said as I gave a small laugh. “And who are you to stop me?” I asked as I brushed her and walked to the door. Suddenly a force pushed me back to the bed, making me yell. I stared at the lady who had bright yellow eyes. “I said you can't leave, do not test my patience.” And with that she walked out of the room, leaving me Dumbfounded. I knew that, if I didn't act fast, my life wouldn't be mine as I was filled with despair. I immediately ran to the door, but it was locked and I knew this was real. I needed to escape, but where would I go? I decided to reach out to Femi, just maybe he would help me. Hope flickered within me as I dialed his number with my shaky hands, while I prayed for him to pick it and he finally answered on the third ring. "Femi," I whispered, my voice trembling with desperation. "Please, I need your help, I think you can help me since you're a werewolf. There was a long pause. When he finally spoke again, his tone had changed, it sounded like he was happy. "So the time has finally come." "What do you mean? Time for what?” “Your marriage will do good to us. You're the Lycan’s bride.” He said. “So you knew about this? Is that why you refused to have s*x with me?” I shook my head in disbelief. "But...what did I do to deserve this?” “If you love your life, try not to escape, and do not call me again. Have a nice life, Licia.” He said, hanging up as rage and betrayal flooded me. So they had all been in on it, I felt the color drain from my face, this is the reason I was sacked. Immediately I donned a simple wear that would let me run and tightly braided my long hair. Silently, I made my way towards the window, my room was on the third floor, but I was determined to escape as I tied the bed sheets together, creating a makeshift rope. I carefully tied the improvised rope around the bedpost, checking it one last time for stability. My heart raced as I lifted myself out of the window, praying that the rain would mask any noise I might make. But just as I thought I would successfully escape, Chloe burst into the room as our eyes met and without hesitation, I sprinted forward, pushing my body to the ground, desperate to escape as I fell with a thud. My clothes plastered to my skin as I got up and ran. Chloe's scream seemed to attract everyone as I ran through the dark alleys. It felt as though the town knew I'd escaped as wailing sirens of police patrol cars seemed to follow me. Soon, the adrenaline that fueled my escape began to stop, leaving me breathless and struggling to catch my footing. My figure was also an issue as my body yearned for oxygen that seemed out of reach. I slowed down, closing my eyes for a moment, as I felt lost and defeated, but suddenly a hand reached out and pulled me into a car. Startled, I looked up and my gaze fell on the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen, his hair around his face felt like a golden halo and I couldn't help, but reach out to touch it. I suddenly became weak as my eyes grew heavy, and darkness began to close in, but at that moment something clicked as we both whispered. “Mate?” “Mate.”
