“ANY PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND?” Mr. Chang asked near the end of Hilarie’s shift on Friday. Business was slow as usual. Only one table was occupied; a beret-wearing girl drank a cup of black coffee while working on her laptop. She was the third (and final) customer of the night.
