There were tears in her eyes as she rushed to her parents. Her wolf was by her side as she threw herself into their arms. They caught her in their arms and held her close. After a moment her parents held her back from them so they could get a good look at her.
“I knew you couldn’t wait for me to finish,” Selene chided her parents.
“Apologies, goddess. We have waited so long for this moment,” her father tilted his head in a sign of respect and submission.
“I understand but we still have stuff to go through and not much time.” Selene explained patiently. “She will be waking up soon.”
Her wolf played with her parent’s wolves as she walked back to Selene with her parents. She didn’t realize how much she had missed having her parents in her life until she saw them there, in the goddess’ garden.
“Unfortunately when Eva was mated to Russell we were not aware that his brother, Eric, was going to become so power hungry.” Her parents looked uncomfortable at the mention of Eric and she can’t help but wonder if he was actually there when they died or if he just gave the order. “When he realized how powerful Eva was he tried to seduce her away, promising her anything her heart desired.”
“But until the day you were born the only thing I ever wanted was my mate. Then I saw you for the first time and I knew you would always be my world,” her mother told her. “Eric had lied and convinced us he had met his mate shortly after you were born so we thought he had only tried to gain my attention because he was lonely. He always seemed so caring and kind. He took a huge interest in you when you were born and acted as the protective uncle, always wanting to help watch over you.”
Her father rubbed her mother’s back trying to comfort her as she sobbed at the memories. “We didn’t want anyone to know your powers were already starting to surface within the first week.” It was her father that had taken over for her mother at this point in the story. “We were afraid the pack would be afraid to let their children play with you as they grew up if they were aware of how powerful you were. You got upset in the first week and caused a huge thunderstorm. Your mother contacted her best friend for help. The only person we told where we were going was my brother, Eric.”
He paused and looked at Eva, “she needs to know, Rusty. I will be alright.” She tried to give him a reassuring smile but it looked weak.
“We arrived without any trouble. Tilly was so taken with you. We had decided that we could not risk telling Tilly where we were living or anything that could be used to find us because Beverly and that mage she tried to marry your mother off to were still trying to find us. It wasn’t until we got to the hotel we were staying in that everything went wrong.”
Her father paused to gather himself together as he was about to tell her the hard part of the story. “We turned to start grabbing our stuff out of the vehicle when I felt something was wrong. But before I could make it to you mother I felt a sharp jab of a needle.”
“When I came to I was in the back seat of the car. I was in so much pain it felt like I was being burned alive from the inside out. He must have thought I was already dead. You were still in your safety seat, crying your little heart out. I feared you had been injected as well but didn’t have time to check because I still wasn’t sure who attacked us. I wrapped you up tight in your blanket because I was having trouble standing and my wolf urged me to shift so we could get you away from there and hide you. My wolf carried you into the woods and found a safe place to hide you.” He continued to talk and she could hear how hard it was for him to tell her what happened. “The last thing I remember is covering the hollow in the tree’s trunk with my body and it felt like every part of me shattered. That was when I knew your mother was gone. That was when I breathed my last.”
Her mother tried to fill in some of the story without telling her anything too painful to hear, “I got stuck with a needle while your Dad was trying to get our bags from the back of the vehicle. I had leaned in the back seat and was getting ready to take you out of your safety seat.”
“I came too as Eric was removing me from the back seat. I saw your dad and could feel he was barely alive but Eric thought he was dead so he wasn’t worried. I had been given something that forced me into my wolf form so I couldn’t use my gift. I have no idea what he did but I couldn’t feel my magic. He chained me up with silver restraints to weaken my wolf then left to try to get you.”
“What he didn’t realize was that Tilly had added protective spells when we did your binding so as soon as he tried to take you the magic felt his intentions were bad and wouldn’t allow him to remove you from the vehicle. He was so angry and couldn’t ask me for answers because of whatever he gave me but I felt your Dad take you into the woods. I held on to give you both as much time as possible to escape. Selene visited me in my final moments and promised me she would keep you safe until Tilly and Fred could arrive.” Sattira could tell there were parts her mother had left out.
Selene had tears streaming down her face. When she spoke her voice was full of the sorrow she felt at the suffering Sattira’s parents had to endure. “I was there and helped your father to regain consciousness after Eric went back into the house. I guided his wolf to the hollow and hid all signs of where he carried you so that you would be safe until Tilly found you.”
“Your mother didn’t get to fulfill her destiny. Because of the greed for power of others she died before she could bring equality between werewolves and mages.” Selene watched Sattira as she spoke. “Without trying you have achieved great steps to unify the two species. My sister and I have both gifted you with special abilities beyond those of either species, just as we did your mother and will continue to do so for every child born to your blood line as long as they prove worthy. Any fated mate to your blood line will be gifted so they may help with the task given to you and your descendants once they have completed the mating. I will gift these mates so their marks with a reminder of my promise, you will know it when you see it.”
Selene motioned to her parents to say their goodbyes. “I know the task of bringing balance is a great one but together with your mate you will accomplish much. I am afraid our time is done for now. You are starting to wake up.”
“We are always watching you. We are so proud of you and love you so very much,” Eva said as her parents both held her.
“I love you too,” Sattira said just as everything faded away.
She woke up still wrapped up in her mate’s strong arms. Her face was covered in tears. She quickly flipped her pillow to hide the wetness from her tear and climbed out of bed being careful not to wake Lugos. She hurried to the bathroom to get cleaned up, grateful for the fact her mate was so tired he didn’t wake up when she removed herself from his embrace. She missed the warmth and scent of him immediately but didn’t want to have to explain her tears before she had a chance to process everything. She wasn’t even sure it wasn’t a dream at this point.
As she showered she realized that she had not thought to ask what special gifts she had been given. She wondered if the ability she had used on Julie was part of these special gifts and exactly how many she had.
When she climbed out of the shower she blushed as Lugos handed her a towel that she wrapped around herself before grabbing the second towel she left out to dry her hair.
“Sorry, I just wanted to see my beautiful mate in all her glory,” he said.
Sattira wasn’t sure what to say as she had turned to run the wide tooth comb through her hair. “Are you hungry? It is almost noontime and we didn’t eat breakfast so you must be,” she said changing the subject.
Lugos sighed, realizing she was still not comfortable enough to be naked around him. “I could eat. I will go get changed and meet you back here.”
It didn’t take him long to get showered and changed. By the time she had finished dressing and styling her hair into loose curls he was back and waiting to walk her to the dining hall.
“Would you like to train together after we eat?” He asked.
“I would love to,” Sattia answered. They were walking down the empty hall of the alpha floor.
“Maybe we could get your friends to join us in the ranked members training room so we can work on the ability you used against Julie and her friends,” he mentioned before reaching the door leading to the staircase that would take them to the dining hall.
Sattira’s face lit up at the thought of seeing her friends. The girls would be leaving for Paris soon and she regretted that with everything going on they hadn’t gotten a chance to hang out.
“I would really like that,” she told him, glad that she had chosen to wear leggings and a loose fitting tank top over a sports bra. She didn’t want to waste time changing yet again when they had slept the morning away already.
They walked into the dining hall to Cara and Brad already eating. Emma and her mate were also seated at the table. Emma’s smile lit up her whole face when she saw her cousin and his mate walking towards the table with their plates of food.
“We missed you at morning training. I was hoping to see if I could spar with you. I have been getting really good since I left to be with my mate. I might be able to take you now,” she giggled at Lugos.
“We got to bed real late. Actually, we were going to invite some of Sattira’s friends to train in the ranked training area. I know Cara can’t do much more than watch but if the four of you want to join us you are more than welcome,” Lugos told them.
The four of them agreed and after mind linking Kim and Nina they all agreed to meet up after everyone was done eating.
Lugos led the way past his father’s office to a staircase that led down to the lower level of the pack house where the indoor training areas were.
“Remind me to show you where the entrance to the safe room is down here after we train. Every major building in the pack has a tunnel leading to the pack safe room and I will show you how to find them so if there is ever an attack and the sirens sound you can help get the pregnant she wolves, pups, elderly, and any other untrained pack members or those who are otherwise unable to fight into them so the warriors can concentrate on fighting off the threat instead of protecting them.” Lugos told her. “It is actually one of the jobs a Luna does but I am sure my mother would appreciate knowing she can count on you to help.” Lugos was smiling at her.
“You know I would be happy knowing I could be of help,” Sattira said as they walked through a large training room where some warriors were currently sparring.
“Our destination is just through those doors,” he told her indicating a door at the corner of the room. He stopped to place his palm on a security plate that scanned his hand to confirm his identity before the lock clicked and he opened the door allowing Sattira’s friends, who had been waiting by the door for them, to enter first.
