The Former Days

Chapter 7 - Cobble

The women and man barged into my room, without permission. “Oh ok.” They just walked in, like they owned the place. “Well, do you have any new information I should know?”

“No, we just want to help.” So, they have nothing for me to know, but they want to help, well that's good. I guess.

“Alrighty then you can help me, but don’t get in my way. K?” I was ok with people helping me, but didn’t anyone distracting me. “I am going to do this my way.”

“That’s okay, all we want is to help,” The woman said.

“I am going to have to ask Elda if you could stay here.” “She probably has a couple more guest rooms, this is a pretty big farm.” I am a little concerned that the woman and man are going to mess up something, but I must have trust.

“That’s alright, we’ll just stay here while you do that”

“Ok.” I went off to find Estrilda, maybe I should ask Dr. C if they can help. But, it’s not that big of a deal, I will if they mess anything up. However, I am very excited to get back into the investigation. I am a detective, I love investigating things, and if Gisela and Gladwin want to help then I guess it is fine.

The next day I went out to town square, at Gordes. I need to find the group who spread the rumors.

Gisela and Gladwin have told me that the group could be hiding out under an abbey called Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque, which is in Gordes actually. I guess Richard was correct. I have got to get to that abbey.

I got another carriage, maybe I should get a horse. I went to the abbey in my carriage, when I got there I was hit in the face with the smell of lavender. There were also rows upon rows of lavender flowers, and an old looking brick building behind the purple flowers. Nuns were walking in and out of the columns of the base of the building. I might've even seen one priest.

I walked up to the abbey, prepared to ask some questions. But, the more I thought about it, I got worried that people aren’t going to be too happy that I am trying to put my nose in things I shouldn’t. So, I'm kinda nervous about doing this.

I feel so close and so far from finishing the mission. I am going to miss being the medieval times, I have met so many good people. But, even when I am done with this mission, I’m going to be back, but in a different time and place.

Abruptly, alarm sounds started blaring, people were running at me; to get out of the abbey. I asked one of the people running out of the abbey what was going on.

“I don’t really know, someone started the alarm.” By alarm they, and I, mean a guard said that there was an intruder, and bells started ringing. I ran inside the abbey and went downstairs. The group has already left. Now I don’t know where they are, I at least know what the group is called now. Their name was plaster all over the walls, Abceline.

The name sounds like multiple peoples’ names together. So maybe it is just a small group, or they are just the leaders. But, this good news, and since I now know the title of the group it will be easier to catch them. I updated the lab that I know the name of the group. They said good work, and that all I need to do is catch the group and take them to prison.

I went back to the farm. Gisela and Gladwin wanted an update, but I still don’t trust them fully. So, I said that nothing came of it. “Oh, well make sure you update us on any new developments. K?”

“Alright, I will.” I reassured them even though I probably won’t, maybe sometimes but not often. They might be in Abceline for all I know. I have buckled down on making money. I am now a labourer (a person doing manual work ) I am saving up to get a horse, because I am sick of traveling in carriages. The horses cost around two livres, so I only need to work for one day then I am good.

It is my first day working, hopefully I won’t get fired on my first day. I got myself, once again, a carriage, hopefully it is my last time. I got paid right after my first day. When I finished my day of work I went straight to the stables, to get a horse.

Someone jumped out of a dark alleyway at me. Grabbed me and put their hand on my mouth, everything went dark. I woke up in a dark cobble room, with shackles on my wrists and ankles. “What do you want from me?” I yelled hoping that someone would hear, but knowing that no one probably would.

“Why are you trying to find Abceline?” Someone said from the corner of the room. Since the room was so dark, I couldn’t see the person.

“Because I want to” I wasn’t going to tell this random person, that I am from the future, or anyone at that. “What are you doing here?”

“Probably the same reason you are here, poking our noses in places they don’t want us to” So, we both have the same objectives.

“How long have you been here?” I feel like I am interrogating a suspect, I am just trying to learn why I am here.

“This is my first day.”

“Our only hope of escaping this place is to work together.”

“I agree.”

“Do you have any ideas?” I asked the person.

“No.”

“Well I don’t either” I guess we are both in hot water then. Hopefully we escape soon though, I have to go to the bathroom.

All of a sudden a door open to my right, and light pours in. The person walks over to me and unlocks my shackles. They took me to another room, and sat me down in a chair. The room looked exactly like an investigation room, reminiscent of home. Well that’s great, now I’m getting home sick while getting kidn*pped.
