We return to my mother’s house late, Ryker dropping me off and asking me to apologise to my mum again for him as he’s just not able to face coming back inside. I slip in through the front door, inching into the living room, to find only my mother there. My brother and his family have already left which I had already gathered from his missing SUV out front. As I enter the room, my mother glances up at me from the black and white Christmas film she is watching on the tv.
