Alex closed the door behind him.
“Marcela,” he began, his voice steady but laced with concern. “What’s wrong? Why are you after Freya?” He took a step closer.
Marcela turned to face him, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as if to shield herself from the emotional storm brewing within. “You know why, Alex. You’ve been distant, she wants you.” Her voice trembled.
Alex shook his head, “No, Marcela. I’m the one who wants Freya. She’s innocent in all of this. You have to understand that.” He took another step forward, his heart racing as he spoke. “Freya was the girl I loved so much before everything changed. I can’t just turn that off.”
Marcela’s expression hardened, her brows knitting together in disbelief. “But I’m your mate, Alex. I’m your wife. You’re not supposed to be cheating on me!” Her voice rose, echoing off the walls.
"Enough, Marcela," he fumed. "I can have more than one wife if I wish. I will not leave her, and that is my final decision."
"You would still be my Luna," he sighed, holding my hand,
Despite feeling emotionally down, my body couldn't help but respond to his touch. Lunar loved the touch of her mate.
"Please, I do not want to be like other Lunas. If you feel you can't leave Freya, then reject me."
"What?" He looked at me with eyes full of horror. "I can't reject you, there will be no such thing as rejection!" He said and stormed out of the room.
That night, I wasn't able to sleep well, but I tried closing my eyes, and after a few minutes, I drifted to sleep.
I suddenly woke up to find myself in a desert filled with ice. Then suddenly, a light shone from the sky, and a beautiful lady wearing an overflowing gown descended from above.
"Marcela, I have come because I have a deal to propose to you."
She immediately bowed her head, seeing that it was the moon goddess.
"Goddess, please save me from my marriage."
"Of course, I would. There would be a winter ball soon. Get ready to go, and you would meet the Alpha. Be his Luna for a year and give him whatever he wishes for."
"But, goddess, you haven't told me his name," she spoke up.
"You will find him on your own because I trust you to do that. Good night."
With that, she disappeared into thin air.
I immediately woke up from my dream, sweating and panting heavily.
"A way out? For me? Does this mean the moon goddess has come to my aid?"
"I think I know just the right Alpha to go for," she said and smiled in her head and fell back asleep.
The next morning was energetic for Marcela as she dialed her best friend's number, Nicole. They had been friends for years but hadn't spoken in a long time.
Nicole's cousin is Alpha Kieran, the alpha of the largest pack in North America, the Dark Water Pack.
He was known to never sleep with the same girl twice. He was the only Alpha who was so ruthless and cunning, he could kill ten wolves at the same time.
She had met him once when he came to pick Nicole up from college. He had stared at her for a long time before leaving. She never thought she was going to see him again, but obviously, he was the only Alpha that could come to her mind.
So she had to call Nicole to ask her for help to meet her cousin, to help her out of her marriage.
And fortunately, she picked up.
"Marcela."
"Nicole," hearing her voice made me feel better.
"How are you, and where are you?" She still sounded so lively as she has always been. Goodness, I missed her so much.
She went directly to the point, "Nicole, I need your help. I wanted to tell her everything, but that would make her come to the pack and make a scene."
"I'm listening," she said
.
"I want to meet with Alpha Kieran urgently. Is that possible?"
"Or you can ask him if he's going to be available for the winter ball coming in a few days' time."
"He's definitely going to come. Don't worry, I'll try to talk to him," Nicole said.
"Take care, Marcela," she said and disconnected the call.
Feeling better, she went out towards the forest at night to let Lunar out.
"Lunar, take over me," she summoned her.
But to her surprise, she didn't reply. She called her again and again, no reply again.
She was scared. "Lunar, you can't sleep. I need you." At the back of her mind, she knew she had been traumatized by everything that was going on, so she left her alone, miserable, and lonely.
As she headed back home, she wondered how much more she could take. She felt like ending her life.
She entered a room, laid on the bed, unable to cry. Then her phone rang, and she picked it up. "Hello?"
"Marcela, Alpha Kieran can meet you at the winter ball. He is coming to see Alpha Alex.
"
"Wow, thank you, Nicole. Love you big time," she squealed.
"But why do you..." Nicole was saying.
She immediately cut her off
.
"Thanks so much, and don't worry about me," she rushed her words
.
"I would have loved to come also, but I have to attend a stupid meeting on behalf of my cousin," Nicole stated.
"Oh, but what about his Luna?" Marcela asked.
"Luna! You say, that bastard is not ready to settle down unless he finds his mate," Nicole said.
She chuckled. "Well, I would love to see you. See you next time."
The winter ball is in two days. Alex wouldn't want to go with me but with Freya. I must find a way," she said to herself.
The next day, Marcela sat on the edge of her bed, wrapping her arms around herself, feeling the chill of the winter morning seep into her bones. The upcoming winter ball loomed in her mind. She had been planning to meet Alpha Kieran there, but the thought of facing her husband, Alex, made her stomach twist. She knew he would never agree to accompany her.
As she pondered her options, the door creaked open, and Alex stepped into the room, his presence filling the space with an undeniable energy. He was still in his training clothes, the fabric clinging to his toned physique, accentuating the muscles that had once made her heart race. But now, as she looked at him, the spark of attraction had dimmed.
“Marcela,” he said, his voice low and steady, “we need to talk.”
She met his gaze, trying to read the emotions behind his dark eyes. “About what?” she asked, her heart pounding in her chest.
He ran a hand through his tousled hair, a gesture that used to make her weak in the knees. “You won’t be attending the ball,” he stated, his tone leaving little room for argument.
Her breath caught in her throat. “What do you mean? I want to go.”
Alex crossed his arms, a familiar defensive posture that made her feel small. “You have no one to go with. It wouldn’t make sense.”
Marcela felt a rush of frustration. “I can go alone, Alex. I don’t need you to hold my hand.”
He shrugged, a nonchalant gesture that only fueled her anger. “It’s just… it’s not right. You know how I feel about Alpha Kieran. He is going to attend the ball, and he needs to meet someone more befitting.”
The mention of Alpha Kieran sent a jolt of heat through her. “And what about how I feel? I deserve to enjoy the ball, even if you don’t want to be there with me.”
"That's all I have to say," he said and slammed the door hard.
She held her rage and returned to her room and called Beta Kenzo.
"Luna Marcela?"
"Kenzo, do you know about the program tomorrow?" she asked.
After a moment of silence, he said yes.
"Good, I want you to accompany me to the ball," she said, disconnecting the call, not wanting to hear anything else he has to say.
The next day Marcela stretched and yawned. Today was the winter ball, a grand event that brought the pack together in celebration, and she could feel the energy in the air.
Curiosity tugged at her as she approached the window, peering out at the driveway below. A parade of sleek, polished cars rolled in, their engines purring softly as they came to a stop. Each vehicle seemed more extravagant than the last. Marcela's heart raced as she watched the scene unfold, her breath catching in her throat when she spotted Alpha Kieran stepping out of a particularly impressive black SUV. He exuded an aura of confidence and authority, his presence commanding attention.
As she continued to observe, Marcela's gaze shifted to her husband, Alex, who was making his way toward Kieran with a broad smile. The two men exchanged greetings. But then, to Marcela's surprise, Alex introduced Freya to Kieran. The air around them seemed to thicken.
Kieran, however, had other plans. Instead of engaging with Freya, he turned his attention to Alex, his eyes narrowing with intent. “Where is Marcela?” he demanded, his voice firm yet curious. “I want to meet her. She’s the Luna of the pack.”
Marcela's heart fluttered at the mention of her name, a mix of pride washing over her. She had always known that being Luna came with its own set of expectations, but hearing Kieran's desire to meet her made it all feel very real.
Freya, sensing the shift in focus, hesitated for a moment before deciding not to follow them into the hall. Instead, she moved back, her expression unreadable as she watched the two men move toward the entrance.
Marcela, on the other hand, was happy that finally she knew her place.
She dressed up in a glamorous maroon-colored gown, which brought out her hourglass shape and looked very elegant on her.
Half of the day was already gone. Alex made sure she wasn't allowed to enter. She then called Beta Kenzo to carry out her plan.
She was waiting at the entrance for Kenzo, then he showed up.
"Luna Marcela, sorry I'm late," he apologized.
"It's okay, let's go in," then they were allowed to enter.
She scanned the hall for Alpha Kieran. Upon spotting him, she was trying to get closer when a guard approached her and took her to the private suite in the hall.
She wondered why. "Is this one of Alex's tricks again?" She asked herself.
Then Alpha Kieran entered, her eyes widened immediately, and her mouth agape.
"I told them to bring you here," he said.
"Alpha Kieran, you must have heard the rumors already," she breathed. "I want to get out of my marriage, and I want to separate my pack, my parents' lineage. I want to support them. Please, I need your help to assist me with a meeting with the pack elders."
"I can do that, Marcela, but would you offer me?" he asked.
Her jaw dropped, his playboy reputation rang in her head. "I'm sorry, Alpha Kieran, but I don't go around sleeping in beds." She stated clearly.
He shifted the table and walked up to me.
"No, Marcela," he said in a deep, dark voice, "if I help you, you have to give me something in return, and I want you," he whispered, his mouth over her ear sending shivers down her spine.
The words of the moon goddess rang in her head, "Be his Luna for a year."
She wasn't ready to yield to that. "Wait, does Alpha Kieran know about the moon goddess deal for me?" She thought in her head.
"I'm going to get your revenge on your husband and his mistress and also help you regain your pack," he paused. "On a condition that you be my Luna for a year." He walked to the table and picked a set of documents and handed them over to me.
She was shocked to the core. "How did the moon goddess visit him too?" She was so confused about everything going on.
"Go over these and sign them by tomorrow morning."
"How did you have a contract ready?" she asked, widening her eyes. "And did you just say tomorrow morning?"
He smirked and looked at me.
"Yes, because I'm leaving with you tomorrow morning."
