Arrival at Blood Moon Academy

The road seemed endless. Aria Vale pressed her forehead lightly against the cool glass of the car window as towering trees blurred past outside. The deeper the car drove into the forest, the darker the world became. The streetlights had disappeared miles ago, leaving only the narrow road illuminated by the vehicle’s headlights. Everything else was swallowed by shadows. She shifted uneasily in her seat. The driver hadn’t spoken a single word since picking her up. Not one. When the sleek black car had pulled up in front of her house the previous night, Aria had assumed there would be some kind of explanation—someone to tell her what Blood Moon Academy actually was. Instead, the driver had simply opened the door and said, “Miss Vale.” Nothing more. Now the man sat rigidly behind the wheel, his eyes focused on the road ahead. Aria studied him carefully. Tall. Broad shoulders. Short dark hair. He looked more like a bodyguard than a school chauffeur. And something about him made her uneasy. She shifted again. “How much longer until we arrive?” she asked finally. The driver didn’t answer immediately. For a moment, Aria wondered if he had heard her at all. Then he spoke in a calm, deep voice. “Not long.” That was it. Aria sighed softly and leaned back in her seat. The silence returned. Outside, the forest grew thicker. The trees were enormous—older than any she had seen before. Their branches twisted together high above the road, forming a dark canopy that blocked out most of the sky. Even the moon struggled to break through. A strange feeling stirred in Aria’s chest. The same restless pull she had felt the night before. Like something was drawing her forward. Calling her. She glanced down at the envelope resting in her lap. The silver crescent moon seal gleamed faintly in the dim light. Her invitation to Blood Moon Academy. She still couldn’t believe it was real. A school for werewolves. It sounded completely impossible. Yet here she was, driving through the middle of nowhere to attend it. Her aunt’s terrified face flashed in her mind. “You must not go.” Aria swallowed. But something deep inside her had refused to ignore the invitation. Curiosity. Or maybe destiny. She wasn’t sure which. The car suddenly slowed. Aria looked up. Tall iron gates emerged from the darkness ahead. They were massive—easily twenty feet high—and decorated with intricate patterns of twisting metal vines. At the center of each gate was the same symbol she had seen on the envelope. A crescent moon. The car rolled to a stop. For a moment, nothing happened. Then the gates slowly began to open. The sound of grinding metal echoed through the silent forest. Aria felt a chill crawl down her spine. Beyond the gates, a long winding road stretched forward through the trees. The driver pressed the gas pedal again. The car moved forward. As they passed through the gates, Aria felt something strange. Like crossing an invisible line. The air changed. It felt heavier somehow. Charged. Her heartbeat quickened without warning. The forest eventually began to thin, revealing a massive structure rising in the distance. Aria leaned forward slightly. Her breath caught. The academy looked like something pulled straight from another century. Dark stone walls stretched upward into tall towers and arched windows. Ivy climbed along the sides of the building, and long stone staircases led to enormous wooden doors. It looked less like a school… …and more like a castle. Moonlight bathed the entire structure in pale silver, giving it an almost otherworldly glow. “Wow,” Aria whispered. The car rolled into a wide courtyard where several other vehicles were already parked. Students moved across the stone pathways in small groups, dragging suitcases and talking quietly among themselves. Aria’s stomach tightened. They didn’t look like ordinary students. There was something different about them. Something… intense. The driver pulled to a stop near the front steps. He stepped out of the car and opened Aria’s door. “We’ve arrived.” Aria nodded slowly and stepped out. The moment her feet touched the ground, the strange feeling returned. Stronger this time. Like electricity humming beneath her skin. She looked around. The academy grounds were enormous. Tall trees surrounded the courtyard, their shadows stretching across the stone like dark fingers. Students passed by, talking and laughing. But as Aria walked toward the entrance, something odd began to happen. People started staring. At first it was subtle. A quick glance here. A curious look there. Then the whispers began. Aria tried to ignore it, but the feeling of being watched grew stronger with every step. Why are they looking at me like that? She kept her gaze forward and continued walking. A group of girls stood near the entrance, their conversation stopping the moment Aria approached. One of them wrinkled her nose slightly. Another tilted her head in confusion. “Do you smell that?” one girl whispered. “Smell what?” “I don’t know… that’s the problem.” Aria frowned slightly but kept moving. The large wooden doors opened as she approached. Inside, the academy was even more impressive. A massive hall stretched before her, lined with tall pillars and glowing chandeliers that cast warm golden light across the polished stone floors. Students filled the space. Dozens of them. Maybe hundreds. Some leaned against the walls talking quietly while others moved toward the large staircase at the center of the hall. Yet despite all the noise and movement… Aria felt something unsettling beneath it all. Like tension hidden beneath a calm surface. Her instincts screamed that she didn’t belong here. That she was standing in a place meant for something stronger. More dangerous. Then suddenly— The atmosphere shifted. It was subtle at first. A quiet ripple passing through the crowd. Conversations began to fade. Students moved aside slightly. A clear path formed through the hall. Aria followed their gazes toward the entrance behind her. Someone had just walked in. She turned. And saw him. The boy entering the hall looked about her age, maybe a year older. Tall. Broad-shouldered. His dark hair fell slightly across his forehead, and his sharp jawline gave his face a striking intensity. But it was his eyes that caught Aria’s attention. Cold. Piercing. The kind of eyes that seemed to see straight through people. He walked with a quiet confidence that made everyone around him step aside without being asked. Students whispered as he passed. Respect. Fear. Both. Aria watched as he moved through the crowd like a silent storm. “Who is that?” someone near her whispered. Another student answered quietly. “That’s Kael.” “Kael who?” The first student lowered his voice. “Kael Draven.” The name seemed to ripple through the air. Kael Draven Aria had no idea who he was. But clearly everyone else did. Kael continued walking toward the staircase. Then suddenly— He stopped. Slowly, his head turned. His gaze swept across the room. And landed directly on Aria. Time seemed to freeze. Aria felt it instantly. A strange jolt of energy shot through her chest. Her heart began pounding violently. The air felt thicker. Warmer. For a brief second, something flickered in Kael’s expression. Confusion. His brows furrowed slightly. Like he had just noticed something impossible. Aria swallowed hard. Why was he looking at her like that? Their eyes remained locked for several seconds. Then something changed. Kael’s expression hardened. His gaze turned cold. Almost hostile. Without another word, he turned away and continued up the staircase. The crowd slowly returned to normal. Conversations resumed. Students began moving again. But Aria remained frozen in place. Her heart was still racing. Her chest felt tight. What was that? She had never met Kael Draven before. Yet the moment their eyes met… It had felt like something powerful had awakened between them. Something ancient. Something dangerous. Aria shook her head slightly. She was probably imagining things. Still… One question lingered in her mind. Why had Kael Draven looked at her like he had just discovered something that shouldn’t exist?
