The silence didn’t last.
A low rumble crawled through the ruins of the temple, deep and unnatural—like something breathing beneath the earth. Cracks spread across the floor again, but this time, they didn’t stop.
They widened.
Slowly.
Hungrily.
Seraphine’s eyes narrowed as cold mist formed around her. “…This isn’t the shadow we just fought.”
Kael tightened his grip on his sword. The crimson flames flickered faintly, reacting to something below.
“…It feels worse.”
Lyra stepped closer to him, her fire dim but ready. “Then we don’t wait for it to come to us.”
Kim clutched her pendant. It pulsed again—faster than before.
“Something is calling…” she whispered.
The ground suddenly split open.
A deep chasm tore through the center of the temple, swallowing broken stone and ancient pillars into endless darkness. From below, a cold wind surged upward—carrying whispers.
Not one voice.
Many.
Kael stepped forward, staring into the abyss. His chest tightened.
“…This place… it’s connected to the river.”
Seraphine didn’t hesitate. “Then that’s where we’re going.”
Lyra blinked. “You’re serious?”
Seraphine glanced back at her. “Whatever is waking up down there… if we leave it, it won’t stay buried.”
Silence.
Then Kael nodded.
“We go.”
They descended carefully.
The deeper they went, the colder it became. The air grew heavy, thick with something ancient—something that didn’t belong in the world above.
Faint symbols began to appear along the stone walls.
Old.
Worn.
Glowing faintly blue.
Kim stopped suddenly.
“…I’ve seen these before.”
Kael looked at her. “Where?”
She hesitated.
“…In my dreams.”
A chill ran through them.
Further down—
The path opened into a massive underground chamber.
And at its center…
Stood a gate.
Towering.
Ancient.
Covered in the same glowing symbols.
Chains of dark energy wrapped tightly around it, pulsing like a heartbeat.
Lyra’s voice dropped to a whisper. “What… is that?”
Seraphine stepped forward slowly.
“…A seal.”
Kael’s eyes locked onto it.
The crimson flames on his sword reacted instantly—burning brighter, almost violently.
As if…
Recognizing it.
Suddenly—
A figure emerged from the shadows.
Slow.
Silent.
A girl.
Her long hair flowed like water, and her eyes glowed faint blue—cold, emotionless.
Water formed around her hands, swirling like living blades.
Lyra tensed. “Who is that?”
The girl’s gaze fixed on Kael.
“…So you’re the one who broke the surface seal.”
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
Kim stepped forward slightly.
“…Wait… I know you…”
The girl tilted her head.
“…Do you?”
Kim’s pendant flared brightly.
Memories clashed.
Fragments.
Pain.
“Y-you were there…” Kim whispered. “The night… the river…”
The girl’s expression didn’t change.
“I am Mira,” she said. “Guardian of the Deep Seal.”
Kael stepped forward, sword igniting.
“And what exactly are you guarding?”
For the first time—
Mira smiled.
Cold.
Faint.
“Something you should have never awakened.”
Without warning—
Water exploded from the ground.
Sharp. Fast. Deadly.
Kael barely blocked in time, flames clashing against high-pressure water blades that hissed on impact.
Lyra reacted instantly, launching fire to counter—but the water twisted, cutting through her attack.
“She’s fast!” Lyra shouted.
Seraphine stepped in, ice forming mid-air to intercept the attacks. “And precise.”
Mira didn’t move from her position.
She simply raised her hand—
And the entire chamber shifted.
Water flooded the ground in seconds, rising around their feet.
“Leave,” she said calmly.
“Or drown with what lies beneath.”
Kael stood firm.
His flames burned stronger against the rising water.
“No,” he said.
Mira’s eyes sharpened slightly.
“…Then you choose death.”
The water surged.
The gate behind her pulsed.
And deep within—
Something answered.
