Beneath The Full Moon

War Room – Nightclaw Pack The war table was littered with maps, weighted down by daggers and carved wolf tokens. Finn leaned over it, jaw tight, finger stabbing at the southern borders. “We march at dawn,” he said. “With three battalions. We hit Knox head-on and crush him before his so-called alliance can mobilize.” Delon, standing across from him, did not immediately respond. Instead, he tilted his head slightly, studying the map as if seeing something Finn could not. “A bold move,” Delon said carefully. “Very Alpha-like.” Finn straightened, pleased. “He expects cowardice. I’ll give him dominance.” Delon’s lips curved faintly—but his eyes stayed calculating. “Or,” he said softly, “you’ll give him exactly what he’s prepared for.” Finn frowned. “Explain.” Delon reached forward and moved one of the wolf tokens—sliding it away from the main route and deep into the forested edges of Knox-Shade territory. “Knox is not stupid,” Delon continued. “He knows your hatred. He knows your strength. A full-blown war only confirms his expectations.” Finn scoffed. “So you’re suggesting I do nothing?” “On the contrary,” Delon replied smoothly. “I’m suggesting you do something far more devastating.” He leaned in. “A surprise strike.” Finn’s eyes narrowed. Using a small unit. Elite warriors. Silent entry,” Delon said. “We don’t declare war—we demonstrate it.” He tapped the table. “You strike their supply lines. Burn their outer watch posts. Kill without banners.” Finn hesitated. “And the alliance?” Delon smiled faintly. “That’s the beauty of it. Since there is no formal declaration, there will be no grounds for immediate retaliation.” He lowered his voice. “By the time the Southern Alliance gathers, Knox will already be bleeding—and questioning his ability to protect his own territory.” Finn stared at the map, his breathing slow and heavy. Delon pressed on, sensing the crack. “You won’t look reckless Alpha,” he said. “You’ll look strategic. Controlled and Powerful.” A pause. Then Delon added the final hook. “And if Knox dies in the chaos…” he shrugged lightly, “…the war ends before it truly begins.” Finn’s fingers curled into fists. Slowly, a dangerous smile spread across his face. “You’re right,” he said. “A full war gives him a stage of being cocky.” He lifted his head, eyes gleaming. “But a shadow strike will give him a grave.” Delon bowed his head slightly. “As always, Alpha—your instincts are unmatched.” Finn straightened, already issuing orders. “Select fifty men,” he commanded. “Only the best.” Delon turned away to obey, his steps calm. His smile—unseen by Finn—was sharp and satisfied. Walk straight into the trap, Delon thought. Just as planned. Hours later, the full moon rose heavy and blood-bright over the Nightclaw Pack. Its silver glow bathed the training grounds in cold light, stretching shadows long and sharp across the earth—but still, there was no word from the Rogue Alpha. Finn stood at the edge of the grounds, his cloak snapping in the night wind, eyes burning as he stared toward the southern horizon. “He must be mocking me,” Finn said darkly. Delon, standing half a step behind him, shook his head slowly. “No, Alpha. He’s waiting. Confident that you won’t dare act first.” Finn let out a harsh laugh. “Then he doesn’t know me at all.” At his signal, the selected fifty warriors stepped forward—handpicked, battle-hardened men who had survived border skirmishes and internal purges alike. Their eyes gleamed with anticipation as they knelt on one knee before him. Finn paced before them, voice carrying through the night. “Tonight,” he began, “we remind the world why Nightclaw is feared.” The men straightened. “The Rogue Alpha believes himself untouchable—protected by alliances, by lies, by stolen loyalty.” Finn stopped, turning sharply. “He is wrong.” A low growl rippled through the unit. “This is not a declaration,” Finn continued. “It is a message. A warning written in blood.” He drew his sword halfway from its sheath, moonlight flashing along the blade. “We will strike fast tonight. Silent. Decisive.” His gaze hardened. “No mercy.” The warriors struck their fists to their chests in unison. “For Nightclaw!” they roared. “For your Alpha,” Finn corrected coldly. Before departure, Finn summoned the council elders to the inner hall. The air inside was tense, thick with unspoken fears. “I will be leading the war operation,” Finn announced without ceremony. “Until my return, Luna Delilah will command the pack.” A ripple of murmurs spread through the room. Some elders exchanged uneasy glances. Others lowered their heads in silent acceptance. Delilah stood beside the Alpha’s throne, draped in moon-white silk, her expression calm—too calm. Elder Korran cleared his throat. “Alpha… the Luna is newly crowned. Perhaps—” Finn’s eyes flashed. “Do you question my judgment?” Silence fell like a blade. “No, Alpha,” Korran said stiffly. Elder Rowan smiled broadly. “It is only fitting,” he said smoothly. “The Luna must learn to rule.” Finn nodded, satisfied. Delilah inclined her head. “I will not disappoint you,” she said softly. Finn stepped closer, lowering his voice so only she could hear. “When I return, this pack will kneel to us completely.” Her lips curved into a faint smile. “I’ll be waiting,” she replied. Two hours later, the gates of Nightclaw opened. Fifty shadows slipped into the night, led by Finn himself. From the battlements, Delilah watched them disappear into the forest, the moonlight glinting off steel and ambition. She did not wave, nor pray to the moon goddess. Instead, she turned slowly, ”Listen, on no account should that gate be open even if it's the Alpha” She issued her first quiet commands to the guards stationed nearby—small changes, subtle shifts in patrol routes. Behind her calm exterior, her thoughts were razor-sharp. Go, she thought coldly, watching the darkness swallow Finn whole. Fight your brother. Spill blood for a crown that was never yours. Her fingers tightened around the Luna pendant at her throat. Whether you return or not, she mused, Nightclaw will belong to me.
