Chapter 5: A New Alpha Rises

That night, Aria sat on the windowsill of her room, legs tucked beneath her, staring out into the moonlit forest. The silver glow kissed the tops of the trees, bathing the world in cold, beautiful light. Calista stirred gently within her—quiet, but at peace. She traced the windowpane with one finger, thinking of everything ahead. Alexandrian University. The trials. A place where rank didn’t define worth. She imagined halls lined with books and sparring rings filled with real challenges—where she wouldn’t be seen as an omega, but as Aria Mitchell. A fighter. A strategist. A name worth remembering. “I want more,” she whispered. “Not revenge. Not status. Just... more.” Calista answered simply, Then go get it. Unbeknownst to her, miles away, another figure stood in silence beneath the same moon. Seth King leaned against the high stone terrace of his wing in the Sunset Pack stronghold, arms folded, silver gaze fixed on the stars. The cool wind ruffled his dark hair. His Lycan, Caspian, paced just beneath the surface, restless. She’s close, Caspian murmured. I know, Seth replied. He didn’t understand how he knew—but the feeling was there. A presence. A pulse in the world. Pressure had been mounting for weeks. The Council had begun whispering—encouraging him to “choose wisely,” to “secure a Luna” before the year was out. Rosalie, his mother, hadn’t been subtle either. The pressure to find a politically strong match grew heavier by the day. But Seth had made a vow, long ago. He would take a mate only when the bond called. Not for strategy. Not for optics. For truth. Caspian rumbled again. She’s not what they expect. Neither am I, Seth thought, and the wolf gave an approving huff. He turned his gaze eastward—toward the distant horizon where Alexandrian University lay. A place where power would be earned. Where fates might cross. Behind him, soft footsteps echoed in the corridor. A slender figure appeared in the archway—Eliza, his younger sister, Aria’s age, with raven-black hair and storm-blue eyes. She was quiet, often overlooked by visiting dignitaries, but she missed nothing. Seth called her his shadow scout. “You’re thinking about the academy again,” she said gently. Seth nodded. “There’s something there, Liz. Something I need to find.” “You mean someone,” she said, not accusing—just knowing. He didn’t answer. “Don’t wait too long,” Eliza said, brushing her hair behind her ear. “Not all wolves wait forever. Some are already watching.” Seth gave her a small smile. “You’re wise beyond your years.” “I’m sixteen. That makes me wiser than most of the Council.” Before she could leave, Brian appeared, leaning against the opposite wall with a smirk. “Your sister just outmaneuvered you again. Are we surprised?” Seth rolled his eyes. “Did you bring the schedules?” “Sure did,” Brian said, tossing a packet of papers. “Alexandrian’s list of applicants. The top candidates, too. Got a few names marked down. One in particular... Aria Mitchell. Interesting background.” Caspian stirred. Aria. Brian noticed Seth’s reaction and lifted a brow. “You know her?” “No,” Seth said slowly. “Not yet.” Eliza tilted her head. “But you will.” Brian walked over to the balustrade beside Seth and leaned on it. “So, what's the plan? Find a Luna by winter solstice? Charm a princess at orientation?” Seth’s jaw tightened. “The plan is to trust the bond when it comes. If it ever does.” Brian clapped a hand on his shoulder. “Sounds like a thrilling romantic adventure. I’ll make popcorn.” Eliza smiled faintly but stayed quiet. There was strength behind her silence—a wisdom that ran deeper than her years. She didn’t crave attention, but when she did speak, everyone listened. Later that night, Seth found her in the training courtyard, practicing with a bo staff under the moonlight. She moved with grace and precision, her expression focused. “You’re improving,” he said, stepping into the ring. “I want to be ready,” she replied without looking at him. “For what?” Eliza twirled the staff and then paused. “For whatever happens next.” They trained together for an hour, exchanging techniques and silent encouragement. And when they finally parted ways, Seth felt it again—that pull. That distant heartbeat. The unknown that was drawing closer with every breath. In a high tower of a far-off castle, under the same moon, Aria’s gaze lifted toward the stars. And unknowingly, Seth’s eyes mirrored hers. Two threads pulled tighter by fate. Two wolves waiting to collide. The journey was no longer a question. It had already begun
