chapter 2: bonfire

[Alex’s pov continued] Sarah was sitting on her front steps, looking down at her phone as we made it up the sidewalk. Looking up with a huge smile, she cheerfully asked “Hey guys! Are you excited for the last day?” She's wearing a pair of knee high socks with her converse that match mine. A pair of black shorts and a p!atd band tee, her hair pulled up in two buns with a few strands left out in front. I looked over as Bay chuckled, “Of course, now let's go before we're late”. I said, rolling my eyes. Sarah didn’t notice the way he looked at her, but I did. Such a love sick puppy dog. I link arms with my best friend and the three of us head toward the school. It seems like it was just yesterday, when we met on our first day of school. They put Bay and I in separate classes. I was really anxious because I never had to be away from him before. That's when Sarah first spoke to me. She told me everything was going to be okay and that was that. I’m so happy to be finishing this journey with the person I started it with. [Bay’s pov] After we got to the school, we went to our lockers and went our separate ways. I’ve been sitting at my desk for nearly 15 minutes now. The teacher’s talking, but not teaching us an actual lesson. I tuned him out and let my mind wander back to where it always does. She’s so damn beautiful. The way her eyes shine in the light, green and brown complimenting each other perfectly. The way her smile can light up even the darkest of days. I'm so in love with her and I don't even know why. If it wasn't for Alex, she wouldn't even give me the time of day. I've tried to move on, I've tried to do casual hookups but I never go through with them. She's always in the back of my mind and I just know if she ever gave me the chance I'd treat her the way she deserves. But alas, that only happens in my dreams. I find myself moving from class to class, not focusing on my surroundings just moving on auto pilot. Before I know it the school day is over and I'm waiting for the girls in front of the school. After waiting for a few minutes I see them heading in my direction, some dude's arm was around Sarah. Why can’t I just get over her? She’s never going to be mine. [Sarah’s pov] The last bell rang and cheers erupted all over the school. Alex was waiting right outside the class, leaning against someone's locker as students rushed by to leave. She smirked when she saw me. “How does it feel to officially be done with high school?” I asked as we started walking towards the school's entrance. Liam, my current fling, popped up behind us and put his arm around my shoulder. “Well if you ask me, I say it feels pretty damn good.” he answers in her place, causing us all to laugh when she says “How’d you know what I was gonna say?” “Bye Liam, I’ll see you at the fire later” I smirked as we parted ways. He winked in return and caught up with a group of guys. To be honest, I don't know him very well but he works as a distraction. Alex and I meet Bay and we head towards the park, our daily after school ritual and our last one at that. Goddess he's so handsome. I wish they knew. Gram had me promise the first time I had a sleepover with Alex, when she realized what I was. Their birthday is coming up this sunday, and Gram will reveal everything to them then. “Alright guys, are we all going to the bonfire later or just me?” I ask as the park entrance comes into sight. Bay starts to shake his head “No I-” but Alex cuts him off “ Of course we're going Bay! It’s our last high school party, loosen up a bit!” he wiggles her brows causing me to giggle “Do we have too?” he sighed as she linked her arm with his. “Oh come on you big baby! A little fun won't kill you” she giggled as she linked her other arm with me. “Fine, but I'm not happy about it!” Bay pouted, causing us both to laugh. [Alex’s pov] We hung out at the park for a few hours. If you thought seventeen year olds wouldn't play like children, you clearly have never been a teenager. We took turns pushing each other on the swings, and having contests on who can go the highest. We had Bay sit in the center of the spinny thing we’ve dubbed the ‘ferris wheel’ (even though it's flat, and doesn't look anything like one, other than the fact that it's a circle that spins). By the time we finally stopped spinning him, he couldn't stand up for ten minutes! We laughed our asses off watching him try and fail. We got to Sarah’s house at quarter till seven, with 3 hours to spare before the party. “Come on Alex! At least put your hair down or something!” she pouted. She's been arguing with me the entire walk to her house because I told her I wasn’t getting dressed up with her. “We're going to a party full of drunken teenagers, my hair is staying up where it can't get puked on, spilled on, or pulled” I shrug. It’s simple thinking really, I have long hair. Anyone with long hair would understand. “UGHHHHH you're so unreasonable!” she threw her hands up as she stomped up the stairs to her second floor bedroom. ------ After two and a half hours she came back down, wearing a completely different outfit. I looked over to my brother and his jaw had dropped, and you can't even blame him; she curled her usually straight hair and messed them up just enough to look perfect. She's wearing an all black romper with a loose sweater hanging off her shoulders, with a natural makeup look, and a pair of all black vans. Only she could pull off such a normal look and take the spotlight. “Holy f**k, you look gorgeous” my brother exlaimed, his eyes not moving from hers. I swear I saw her blush but she quickly hid it by turning towards the kitchen. “I”ll be right back. I'm gonna leave mom a note!” she yelled as she entered the other room. I turned to Bay who was still staring after her. “Come on lover boy, pick your jaw up off the floor” I chuckled. He looked at me and blushed from embarrassment. “Alright guys, you ready?” Sarah asked as she opened the front door. I nodded and followed her, with Bay right behind me. After about 15 minutes we arrived at Adam's, the most popular guy in the school's house, immediately seeing people in the front yard, all the way around the house to the back, and people through the windows. I've sorta had a crush on Adam since freshman year. Maybe tonight will finally be my lucky night, if I can get away from my overbearing brother long enough. We head around back and I spot the drink table. “Hey guys, I'm gonna go get a drink!” I yelled over the music, dipping out before either could stop me. Heading towards the drinks I grab a solo and fill it up with some jack and coke and chug it down. I have a strangely high tolerance to alcohol. After repeating the process a few times I start to feel like it's doing its job and head towards the music. I see Adam making his way over to me and I start to head towards him. “Hey” he chuckled, his laugh is so sexy dude, ugh. “Wanna get a drink?” I asked and he nodded, grabbing my hand and guiding me back towards the table.
