Chapter 3

Jason lied. Cassandra did not see, hear, or even smell Jason the next day. As a matter of fact, she hadn’t seen him for a whole week. She could not tell if she was happy or sad about that. It angered her that a part of her wanted to see him; she barely even knew him. She had only met him twice, and both times he was an asshole to her. "Are you coming for the getaway, Cassy?" Margaret, one of the staff at Gold Scents and Cassandra’s coworker, asked. The company had announced an annual getaway that would take place at an R&B hotel a few minutes away from the company headquarters. It was an opportunity for the staff to relax and have fun together. But Cassandra had other plans. "No, I would rather stay home," she informed her, and Margaret laughed. She stopped when she saw the serious look on Cassandra’s face. Margaret was a beautiful, dark-skinned woman with afro-styled hair. Her skin sometimes reminded Cassandra of caramel. She frowned before taking a seat beside Cassandra. "Why would you do that? It’s going to be fun. And I heard Brian was going to be there," Margaret said, doing her best to convince Cassandra. The woman with sapphire eyes smiled at the mention of her fellow colleague, Brian. He was a tall brunette with deep blue eyes who had made his attraction to Cassandra very obvious. There was nothing particularly wrong with him; he was attractive and had a wonderful sense of humor. But he just wasn’t Cassandra’s type, meaning he was not a good enough reason to make her come. "I’m sorry, but I am not interested. You all should be having fun now," Cassandra said before getting off her desk and heading towards the elevator. As she walked out of the building and into the busy streets of New York, she could not help but feel like someone was watching her. She turned on her heel to face the Gold Scents Tower, and she was right. She was being watched. Jason stood at the top of the giant skyscraper with his hands behind his back and his eyes trained solely on her. From where she stood, he was nothing but a silhouette, but Cassandra knew it was him. It took everything in her to will herself to move, because if she didn’t, only God knows how long she would stand there staring at him. It bothered her to no end that he had that effect on her. Cassandra has always hated being woken up from a good sleep, especially now. She had planned to have the whole day to herself and relax, but now there was some lunatic pounding on her door that wouldn’t let that happen. She laid in bed for a few more minutes, hoping that whoever it was that was at her door would go away. They didn’t. An annoyed sigh left her lips as she shot to her feet and marched up to the front door. She did not care how she looked at that moment; that was until she opened the door. "Get dressed," was the first thing Jason said as Cassandra opened the door. The young woman blinked at him with surprise before saying, "I thought you had your own key?" A smirk threatened his lips as he gazed at her through his dark lashes. "I didn’t know you would have preferred it if I let myself in. I will make sure to do that next time." "what? No, that’s not what I meant; never mind. I am going to bed," she grumbled, proceeding to shut the door, but Jason stopped her. "I said, get dressed," his voice was a lot more menacing, and his eyes were hard. "We are going to the getaway." "No." "Would you rather I fire and sue you?" Cassandra shot him a venomous glare: "You wouldn’t dare." Instead of giving her a verbal response, Jason raised one of his brows slowly, and she knew what that simple gesture meant. He would dare. Thirty minutes later, the two of them were riding at the back of his Porsche, with his driver taking us to the hotel. The sun was already starting to set, and Cassandra wondered if she had overdressed for the occasion. She wore a body-hugging black dress that stopped a little bit above her mid-thigh. It was strapless, meaning her entire chest and cleavage were exposed. On her feet were a pair of black stilettos, and adorning her neck was a silver necklace she had gotten while in high school. Her makeup was smokey and dark. A part of her wondered if Jason hated it because he wasn’t looking at her. His eyes were focused out the window, but Cassandra could see his jaw tightening from where she sat, not to mention that his hand was balled into a fist on his lap. Cassandra thought that maybe he was starting to regret bringing her home. And it hurt. The car ride was spent in silence, and once they got to the hotel, Jason did something that completely caught her off guard. He took her hand and led her inside. As they approached the entrance to the lush hotel, Cassandra could not stop herself from asking, "Why were you so bent on my attending these things?" Margaret told me you didn’t like attending the getaway. They walked through the reception and into the great hall. Cassandra could not stop her jaw from dropping at the size and beauty of the place. She also did not fail to notice that most people had stopped what they were doing to look at them. Cassandra could recognize some of her colleagues, and they all had shocked expressions on their faces. That was when Jason decided to answer her, "I like trying new things." He said, and Cassandra did not know why she felt like there was a double meaning to his words. They made their way towards the food table and helped themselves to a bottle of wine. The rest of the night went by in a flash, and Cassandra had to admit that she was actually having fun. After an hour, she could no longer stand on her feet, and she knew the alcohol was starting to settle in. "Wanna get out of here?" Jason whispered in her ear, and she nodded without a second thought. Everything else after that was vague in her memory; the only thing she remembered was that his mouth tasted like whiskey as they latched onto hers. A hum of satisfaction resonated from her throat as his tongue slipped past her lips and explored her mouth. A yelp left her lips when she was flying across the air and landing on the bed with a bounce. Cassandra propped herself up with her elbows only to find Jason’s once-brown eyes had turned completely black. They were focused on the spot between her legs, and it was at that moment that Cassandra realized that her legs had been spread wide open, giving Jason a perfect view of her black thong. Cassandra made the mistake of attempting to shut her legs because, in a flash, Jason was between them. His large hands gripped her inner thighs and spread them even farther apart. His voice sounded demonic when he said with a low growl, "Don’t you dare." Jason was soon dipping his head between her thighs, and the rest of the night went by in a blur. ●●●●●● A warm light infiltrated Cassandra’s eyes, and a gentle whine escaped her lips. She turned on her side to get away from the blinding light, but was met with nothing but solid muscle. Her eyelids flew open, and she was stumbling out of bed faster than she could blink. She stared at Jason’s naked form, and regret washed over her like a wave on the beach. What had she done? She had just slept with a man she barely knew. She hated doing such intimate acts when there weren’t any feelings present. How could she be so stupid? Jason stirred on the bed from all the movement Cassandra was making, and slowly he opened his eyes to meet her wide ones. His eyebrows knitted together with confusion, and he sat up properly. "Is anything the matter?" he asked, but Cassandra was not giving him the honor of a reply. She hurriedly picked up her thong and dress, which were lying on the floor, and she heard Jason shuffle to his feet. "Hey, stop. What are you doing?" "Get away from me!" she snapped, making Jason’s eyes widen, but by only a fraction. "This was a mistake; none of this should have happened. I’m sorry." She spoke quickly before hurrying out of the room. but before she was completely out of hearing range, she could have sworn she had heard Jason say, "I’m not."
