Nyx went out of the house to get some fresh air. Aside from still feeling lightheaded, she is annoyed by Edward’s intrusion into her personal space. The events of that night just made her decide to leave that place.
She remained outside for a few minutes before she went back inside to continue cleaning up, ignoring the noise in the living room.
The next day, Nyx went to the café where she waits on tables and sometimes helps at the counter during peak hours.
“How was your vacation?”
Eugenie asked.
She is Nyx’s friend and co-worker. She is smaller than Nyx’s tall and slender physique, but she was cute as a button with her short curly hair, doe eyes, and plump red lips that people often call her snow white.
Nyx turned to her while wiping the recently vacated table.
“It was amazing,” she answered.
Eugenie grinned excitedly, taking a seat on the empty chair. The peak hours were starting to die down, and the café was quite empty at that time.
“Tell me everything,”
Nyx smiled and started telling her friend everything about her vacation in Bulgaria.
“I am so jealous. My folks just gave me money as a gift for our graduation, but you got a free trip to Bulgaria,” Eugenie whined, and then she looked at Nyx.
“Does your mom’s friend need a sugar baby?”
She asked, and Nyx almost choked on her own saliva.
“Eugenie,”
Eugenie raised her arms in mock surrender.
“I was just joking. You're lucky your mother has a friend who cares for you since you were left with a family that doesn’t care,” she said, and Nyx let out a sigh.
“I am grateful that Celestino was there for me. I am grateful that he honors his friendship with my mother,” Nyx mumbled.
Eugenie propped her elbow on the table and looked at her friend intently.
“So, did you meet any handsome guys while you were in Sofia?” she asked, and Nyx froze when the memory of the night with the stranger came to her.
Eugenie narrowed her eyes at her friend when she noticed her reaction.
“You did, did you?”
Eugenie’s voice grew louder, so Nyx had to shush her.
“Your voice,” Nyx hissed and grabbed the tray with dirty dishes and glasses, and walked towards the back, where the kitchen is located.
Eugenie followed her, not letting her off as she wanted more details.
“Come on, tell me. Was he hot? Did you get his name or his number?”
Eugenie fired her questions, while Nyx ignored her in the busy kitchen.
“Come on, girl. I need more details,” Nyx pushed.
Nyx huffed and turned to her friend.
“I didn’t get his number, and we just had a few drinks on my last night in Sofia, okay,” Nyx told her.
Then Eugenie grabbed her arms.
“Was he hot? A local or a foreigner?” she asked.
“A tourist. Yes, he is quite a charmer, but that was it. I don’t know anything else about him, and I definitely did not get his number,” Nyx answered, pulling away from her friend and going back up front.
“What? That was it?! Why didn’t you get his number?” Eugenie whined.
Then she stomped her foot and followed Nyx out of the kitchen. When she got there, she stopped in her tracks when she saw Nyx talking to their school’s popular guy, Edward.
Eugenie, wanting to eavesdrop on their conversation, grabbed a washcloth and started wiping the table closest to where Edward and Nyx were standing.
“The team is throwing a party tomorrow night. I want you to come,” Edward told Nyx, who arched her eyebrow at him.
“Come again? I must have heard you wrong.” Nyx said, and Edward opened his mouth to respond, but Nyx just beat him to it.
“What made you think I wanted to go to your party? Didn’t I tell you already that I am not interested in mingling with you or your circle? Did the ball hit your head too many times that you cannot understand a simple sentence?0”
Edward was taken aback by her response, but all he could do was smile.
“I am not giving up. My invitation still stands. The party is in my house, please come,” he said, his hand tried to reach and touch Nyx’s head, but she took a step back.
Edward smiled at her.
“I will see you at the party, Nicola,” he said, winking at Nyx before turning around and leaving the café.
After Edward left, Eugenie rushed to her friend’s side.
“What was that? Since when did Edward, the popular guy, get close to you?” she asked.
Nyx heaved a deep breath and replied.
“He happened to be the son of my dad’s high school friend. He was in our house last night.”
Eugenie grabbed Nyx by her arms again and started shaking her.
“When did you get so lucky?! Edward asked you out!” she exclaimed.
Nyx rolled her eyes and pulled herself out of Eugenie’s hold.
“I am not lucky. I just happened to be his next victim. I will not let myself fall into his fake charms,” she said coldly.
Eugenie looked at her friend with a confused expression.
“What happened to you? You used to have a crush on him,” she asked.
“Yeah, during freshman year, which was ages ago. People change, I changed after I saw him for what he really is,” Nyx replied.
Eugenie pouted.
“Can’t you just go out with him at least for the clout? I mean, he is rich, popular, and handsome.”
Nyx scoffed in response to what Eugenie said.
“Handsome? I think I have a new definition of handsome,” she said, walking away from Eugenie, who looked perplexed.
Hours passed by, and both Nyx and Eugenie were done with their shift. The moment they clocked out, their other friend came into the café.
“Hey girls,”
Bello cheerfully greeted them, a little bit loud for their liking. Bello is the third part of their trio. He is tall, handsome in his own way, with dimples on both cheeks. Girls get swoon when he smiles, but he only prefers guys.
Nyx and Eugenie shushed him and dragged him out of the café.
“Why are you so loud?” Eugenie hissed at Bello.
“I am just excited because Nyx is back. I missed you, girl,” Bello replied, pulling Nyx in a hug.
“I missed you too,”
“So, how was Sofia? Any cute boys?” Bello asked.
“She met a guy,”
Eugenie chimed in, and Bello’s eyes widened.
“What? Tell me everything. I need all the details,” he pressed.
“That’s the thing. She won't give me details. She didn’t say the guy’s name, and she also didn’t get his number,” Eugenie said, and Bello dramatically gasped.
“Why?”
Nyx shook her head.
“It's not important, okay,” she said, and then she glanced at her wristwatch.
“Uhm, I need to go. I have to meet with Celestino, my mom’s friend. I will see you later.”
Nyx said, jogging away from her friends before they could even say a thing. Bello and Eugenie just huffed as they watched their friend hail a cab.
Nyx went to a posh café where Celestino told her he would meet her. When she stepped out of the cab, the first thing Nyx saw was the two huge men wearing black suits by the café’s entrance. She recognized them as Celestino’s bodyguards.
“Ms. Schade, Mr. Rijeka is inside waiting for you.”
One of the bodyguards said and opened the door for Nyx.
“Thank you,” she mumbled and went inside the café.
Once inside, no need for Nyx to scan the place for Celestino as she easily spotted him at the very back of the café with his two other bodyguards standing behind him.
Celestino smiled the moment his eyes found Nyx. He stood up, and Nyx smiled as she walked towards him. Celestino was a handsome middle-aged man with an incredible physique, and his presence commanded respect.
He opened his arms as Nyx came close, and she accepted his hug as soon as she got to him.
“I am so happy you called me, анђео,” Celestino said, pulling away.
Nyx smiled at him. Hearing him call her angel in his native tongue made her feel at home.
“How are you, Celestino?” she asked.
“Very well. Please, come sit with me,” Celestino responded, pulling out a chair for Nyx.
“Thank you,”
Nyx sat down, and Celestino went back to his seat. He poured tea into the cup in front of Nyx and offered her biscuits.
“So, what should we discuss?” Celestino asked.
Nyx took a deep breath and looked at Celestino intently.
“I won't beat around the bush, Celestino,” she started, and Celestino nodded, urging her to continue.
“I want to leave that family,”
