Nyx was so stunned by what she heard that she didn’t notice the last speck of sand fall from the hourglass. She was then pulled out of her thoughts when she heard the long, steady beep of Thaddeus’ heart monitor.
The time was no longer frozen; the man who claimed to be Death was gone, and Thaddeus had passed. She also noticed that she was holding his hand. Nyx felt something squeeze her heart, and tears began rolling down her cheeks.
Celestino, Teddy, and the other armed men in the room bowed their heads, as if to say a prayer and bid farewell to their old boss. Then after that moment of silence, Celestino walked around the bed to get to Nyx and pulled her in a hug.
“He’s resting now,” he whispered against her head.
Teddy then walked over to them.
“We need to do it now,” he said.
