Since she gave birth to Klaus, Nyx felt like something had changed in her. She feels like she’s getting more impatient with other people, and she sees all the injustice, which infuriates her.
Normal things that she didn’t do or experience before. She also began hearing a voice in her head that judges the people around her, and sometimes it speaks to her.
She thought she was crazy that she tried seeing a specialist, but her tests don’t show that she has mental problems. Now it makes her wonder what she is experiencing.
One night while sleeping, she began to dream.
It wasn’t a dream, but it looked like a memory. It was when Edward attacked her in the woods. But this time, it was like she was watching it happen to herself. She saw how she blocked Edward’s last attack when she was down.
Nyx was shocked to see how she threw Edward against the tree. She watched herself attack Edward, beat him to pulp; punch and scratch him everywhere. Then Nyx’s hands flew to her mouth, horrified as she watched herself grab Edward by his throat, raise him from the ground before ripping his throat with her bare hands.
Nyx fell on her butt when she tried to leave. She watched herself chuckle as she looked down at Edward’s lifeless body.
“Oh my god”
Nyx mumbled, and then her body stiffened when she saw her other self turned towards her. Nyx swallowed hard, looking at herself covered in blood. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to crawl backwards.
‘I am not going to hurt you,’
She said to her.
She watched herself crouched down in front of her. The sight of her own face covered in blood made her gag.
‘Relax, I said I won't hurt you. I am just showing you what happened that night and what will happen in the future,’ she said.
“What? What do you mean? This is a dream.”
Nyx spoke.
The other her looked at her and laughed.
‘Yes, a dream, but it's a dream I created to show you what I want to show you,’ she said.
Nyx looked at the woman in front of her as she recognized the voice.
“You’re the one I hear in my head. I'm really crazy,” she mumbled.
‘You're not crazy. You can now hear me because I woke up. Gosh, it feels so good to finally awaken.’ The other her said.
Nyx frowned.
“I don’t understand.”
‘Of course you don’t. Anyway, I will tell you everything soon. Your stupid alarm clock is blaring’
Then Nyx opened her eyes, awaked by the sound of her alarm clock. She sat up and looked around her. She was no longer in the woods but in her room in Celestino’s house.
She looked at the alarm clock and turned it off. She hugged her knees close to her chest as she thought about the dream. It felt so real, and it was really confusing her. She stretched her limbs and shook her head before she got out of bed and went to the bathroom.
She did her morning routine and changed into her home clothes before she went to see Klaus in his room. The boy was still sleeping soundly. She stroked his head, kissing his forehead.
‘Such a handsome boy with so much potential.’
Nyx pulled away from her son, annoyed that she could hear the voice again. She huffed and then ignored it.
‘Hey, don’t ignore me. We already spoke last night,’
The voice said, and what it said made her stop in her tracks.
‘Yes. Your dream was real. A memory of the night you killed that boy.’
The voice said, as if taunting her. Nyx shook her head, kept telling herself that she was just hearing things. She took several calming breaths to calm her mind and continue to block the voice in her head.
Nyx then went out of Klaus’ room and walked downstairs to join Celestino for breakfast. As she walked towards the dining room, she noticed the luggage being brought down by his men.
“Good morning, tata.” Nyx greeted Celestino, kissing his forehead.
Since she lived with Celestino, she recognized him as her father, so she started calling him Tata, which means daddy in Serbian.
“Are you leaving?” she asked as she sat down.
“Yes, I was called to work,” he replied, sipping his coffee.
Nyx narrowed her eyes at him.
“When will you ever tell me what you really do for a living aside from being a lawyer?” she asked.
Celestino smiled at her as he sipped coffee.
“It's dangerous for you to know,” he responded.
“You're in the mafia,”
Nyx blurted, making Celestino choke on his coffee, and his men all paused and looked at her. Nyx looked at all of Celestino’s men, who looked like antelope in headlights.
Celestino wiped his mouth with the table napkin and looked at Nyx in disbelief.
“What made you say that?” he asked.
I looked at him as I spread cream cheese on my bread.
“I just figured since you were so mysterious and look at all your guards. And overall, you give off that Mafia boss vibe,” she explained, taking a bite of her bread.
Nyx looked at him.
“I saw the same family insignia in the documents you were reviewing. I also saw the same insignia in my mother’s paperwork. So, I can assume she is also a part of the organization.”
Celestino smiled, folded the newspaper he was reading, and leaned back.
“When did you become so observant?” he asked, sounding amused.
“Since the beginning,” Nyx responded.
Celestino sighed and nodded.
“You are right about your mother and me being a part of the organization, but you are wrong about me being the boss. I am just a consigliere,” he said.
“And my mother?”
“She’s a legal advisor.”
Nyx nodded.
“I knew it. There is no way my mother would have that much money just by being a lawyer,” she mumbled.
Celestino looked at her intently and asked.
“Does it bother you?”
Nyx looked at him and shook her head.
“It made me wonder what kind of life my mother lived,” she answered.
Celestino observed her face.
“Why don’t you come with me and meet the rest of the family? It's your summer vacation,” he said, and his guards were all surprised.
“But would that be me intruding?” she asked him, feeling worried at how the people her mother worked with would react to her.
“You are your mother’s daughter; that makes you part of the family too,”
Celestino said, and then he turned towards one of his guards.
“Informed them that I will be bringing Niana’s daughter and grandson,” he ordered.
The guard nodded, pulled out his phone, and made the call.
“You should start packing after you eat,”
Celestino said, and Nyx nodded her head while eating.
****************************.
After she had breakfast, Celestino made arrangements so Nyx and Klaus could come with him to Montenegro. While he was making arrangements, Nyx went back to her room to pack for herself and for Klaus’ things, while he was being fed by his nanny.
After preparing, they made their way to the tarmac where Celestino’s private plane was waiting for them. Celestino let Nyx climb into the plane first before he followed, carrying Klaus.
They all took their seats and waited for the pilot and air crew to finish their preparations so they could take off. Celestino was playing with Klaus when he noticed that Nyx was quiet.
“Is there something wrong? If you are worried about meeting your mother’s colleagues, don’t. They are excited to meet you, especially our boss, who treated your mother like his own daughter.
Nyx looked at him.
“Is it a custom among the men of your organization to take in girls and treat them as your daughters?” she asked.
Celestino stared at her for a second before he chuckled.
“No, it just happened that the boss didn’t have a daughter while I don’t have a child.” He answered.
Nyx nodded, smiling.
“Girl dads,” she said, and Celestino chuckled, nodding his head.
“Yes, we are girl dads.” He said.
Soon the door of the plane was pulled to close, and the pilot announced that they were about to take off. They put on their seatbelts as the plane began to move towards the runway.
Klaus made a fuss when the plane took off, but as soon as they were airborne and stable. Soon, the boy fell asleep in Celestino’s arms. Nyx, on the other hand, was still bothered by what she dreamed of.
‘I told you it's not a dream’
She heard the voice once again. Nyx tried to tune it down, to pretend it wasn't happening, but the voice was persistent; it wouldn't stop, even though she was close to having a migraine.
Nyx grimaced as she rubbed her temples.
“Nicola, are you okay?”
Celestino asked her worriedly when he noticed that he seemed to be bothered by something. Nyx looked at him, clearly bothered and uncomfortable.
“I think I’m going crazy,” she told him, and Celestino frowned.
“Going crazy? What do you mean?” he asked.
Nyx let out a loud sigh, propped her elbows on her knees as she leaned forward.
“I’m hearing a voice in my head, and she just wouldn’t shut up.”
Nyx said, and Celestino looked at her intently.
“Are you sure it’s a voice and not a mirage? Are you hungry? Have you been sleeping? Are you on drugs?”
Celestino asked question after question. Nyx gave him a deadpan look.
“I may be losing some sleep, but I am fine. I don’t do drugs either. Why would you think that?” she responded, answering one of his questions.
“Alright. You need a specialist,” he said, and Nyx sighed.
“I already did. They all said there is nothing wrong with me,” Nyx told him.
Celestino eyed her carefully.
“Is it like an auditory hallucination that is making you see these people or hear things?” he asked.
“It's not really like that. It was speaking to me,”
Nyx answered, and Celestino arched his eyebrow.
“Like is having a conversation with you?” he asked back, and Nyx nodded
Celestino was quiet, like he’s in deep through.
“I don’t think you are crazy.”
He said, and Nyx looked at him.
“What do you mean?”
“I think this has something to do with what your mother told me before.”
Celestino said, and Nyx furrowed her eyebrows.
“Looks like my mother has opened up a lot of things to you,”
Nyx said, and Celestino smiled.
“That she did, and I’m glad I was the one he entrusted those things to.”
