She sat down.
She did it deliberately, because standing would have felt like preparing to leave, and she wasn't leaving. She was staying in this kitchen and having this conversation until she understood exactly what had happened.

Lewis kept his hands on the table. "Marcus found it during the post-board financial review. Standard sweep — they look at everything when there's been a hostile move. The instrument is from your second seed round, three years ago. Secondary tranche, deferred repayment, maturity in four months."
"I know the instrument," Yessica said. "I negotiated it. I know every clause in it."
"Then you know the change-of-control provision."
"I know it applies to acquisition. To a majority stake transfer."
