In each compartment there were things to shut off, and now as Setter nosed down to two hundred feet and swung sharply to port at the same time as she increased speed, a man in each of the compartments reported by telephone to the Control Room, ‘Tube Space shut off for depth-charging,’ ‘Engine room shut off for depth-charging’... When all the reports were in, Crawshaw told the Captain, ‘All compartments shut off, Sir, communications tested.’ He had that pump going again, to lighten the tanks at the new depth.
‘Steer three-two-oh.’
