CHAPTER 15 ‘I’m not leaving till we’ve found Lev.’ Callie leaned on her heavy stick and wiped her sweating forehead. ‘He won’t come. Not now,’ Stephen said flatly, swishing his stick from hand to hand as he kept an eye open for escaping rats. ‘He probably can’t find the gap in all this smoke,’ Meg pointed out. ‘We can’t just leave him here to die!’ El was close to tears. All she could think of was Lev’s shining face, his pride when Meg had introduced him as ‘Sir Lavaine’. And her own mean intervention.
