Chapter 4: Training the Weak Girl

945 Words
The air here felt… different. Heavier. Charged. Like the ground itself was alive beneath my feet. I stood in the clearing, my body still weak, but my senses sharper than they had ever been before. The mysterious man stood a few steps away from me, silent… watching. Always watching. “Again.” His voice was calm, but firm. Cold. I clenched my fists, breathing hard. My arms ached, my legs trembled, and my entire body screamed in protest. “I can’t…” I whispered, shaking my head. A blur of movement. Before I could react— He was in front of me. Fast. Too fast. His hand gripped my chin, forcing me to look up at him. “You can,” he said quietly. “You just don’t want to.” Anger flared inside me. “I almost died!” I snapped, my voice breaking. “My wolf is broken, I have no strength, and you expect me to fight?!” His eyes darkened slightly. “Good.” I blinked. “…What?” “Pain,” he continued, releasing me, “is the only thing that makes weak wolves strong.” My jaw tightened. “I’m not weak.” A small smirk touched his lips. “Then prove it.” Before I could say anything— He attacked. I barely saw it coming. His body moved like the wind, his strike aimed directly at me. Instinctively, I raised my arms— Too slow. I was thrown backward, hitting the ground hard. Pain shot through my body. A gasp escaped my lips. “Too slow,” he said. I gritted my teeth, forcing myself to sit up. “I said… again.” I pushed myself to my feet, my legs shaking. My heart pounded wildly. Fear. Pain. Anger. It all mixed inside me. “Again,” he repeated. This time— I moved first. I lunged toward him, my movements clumsy but desperate. I swung at him— He dodged easily. “Predictable.” His foot swept beneath me, and I crashed to the ground again. Dust filled the air. My chest rose and fell rapidly. I couldn’t win. Not like this. Not against him. “Get up.” “I can’t…” I whispered. “Yes, you can.” His voice was sharper now. More commanding. “You survived rejection. You survived the forest. And you think THIS is where you stop?” Something inside me stirred. Anger. Hot. Burning. “I won’t stop…” I muttered, pushing myself up again. “That’s better.” This time, I didn’t rush blindly. I watched him. Studied him. The way he shifted his weight. The way his eyes followed my movement. I took a breath. Then moved. Faster. Not perfect. But better. I dodged his first strike— Barely. My heart jumped. “I did it…” But my distraction cost me. He grabbed my wrist, twisting it sharply, pulling me closer. “Focus,” he said near my ear. His presence was overwhelming. Dangerous. But something else… Something familiar. My wolf stirred again. Faint. Weak. But there. Encouraged. I reacted instinctively. I twisted my body, using his grip against him— And for a brief second— He lost balance. It was small. Barely noticeable. But it happened. His eyes flickered with surprise. Then— Approval. “Good.” I stumbled back, breathing hard, my chest rising and falling rapidly. “I… did that…” “Yes,” he said simply. A strange feeling spread through me. Pride. For the first time since that night… I didn’t feel completely broken. “Again,” he said. I almost groaned. But something inside me refused to give up now. We trained until the sun began to rise. Again. And again. And again. Each time, I fell. Each time, I stood back up. My body was exhausted. Bruised. Barely holding together. But my movements… They were improving. Slowly. Painfully. But surely. Finally, he stepped back. “Enough.” I collapsed onto the ground, gasping for air. “I’m going to die…” I muttered weakly. “You’re not.” I turned my head slightly, looking at him. “Why are you helping me?” I asked. Silence. For a moment, I thought he wouldn’t answer. Then— “Because you’re not what you think you are.” My brows furrowed. “What does that mean?” He stepped closer, stopping just in front of me. His gaze was intense. Piercing. “You are not weak.” My heart skipped slightly. “You’ve just never been awakened.” A chill ran through my body. “Awakened…?” His eyes darkened. “Your power is sealed.” My breath caught. “What…?” “And when it breaks…” he continued, his voice lowering slightly, “you will become something this world has never seen.” My heart pounded. Fear. Excitement. Confusion. “All of it will come out at once.” I slowly sat up, staring at him. “Why do you know this?” He didn’t answer immediately. Instead— He turned away. Looking toward the rising sun. For a moment… he looked distant. Almost… familiar. Then he spoke. Quietly. “Because I’m the one who sealed it.” My eyes widened. “What?!” I pushed myself up, ignoring the pain. “You did WHAT?!” He looked back at me. And for the first time— I saw something different in his eyes. Not cold. Not distant. But something deeper. Something dangerous. Something that made my heart race for a completely different reason. “And now,” he said slowly, “I’m here to undo it.”
