Mac had been pacing the nearly empty emergency department waiting room for the last 30 minutes, anxious for news. As she turned, she saw a uniformed figure approaching. Instinctively she stood a little taller and took in a breath as Deputy Chief of Detectives Mike Sawyer walked in.
“Hello, Chief.”
“Detective. Any news?”
