TWO WEEKS LATER
Brooke Mitchell looked up from her paperwork when her phone chimed with a call.
Brooke was a senior evidence technician working in the Tucson Police Department crime lab. She was 34 years old and had been working as an evidence technician since leaving the Air Force eight years before.
Answering the call, she said, “This is Brooke.”
The voice on the other end said, “Hey Brooke, this is Kenny in dispatch. We need you to meet Detective Lopez out on Grove Street near Pinewood. I’m sending the info to your van.”
“Sure. Am I taking the whole team?”
“No, this is just a missing-person investigation that’s been open for several weeks. There’s no sign of foul play, but the guy has been gone long enough that we’re taking a closer look.”
“Okay, I’ll be on my way in
