Chapter Two

Karleighanna stared down at her khaki pants, her shirt and realized that they were her only clothes. She had already torn the top from banging on the submarine and her khaki pants were dirty from working with Frost. This would do but let's see what they got She went to a cabinet and opened it to reveal a good stock of sailor outfits. She pulled on a pair of baggy white pants and looked at herself in the rusty mirror Ugh. She thought. Not the most flattering, but it will have to work. Reluctantly, she pulled down a shirt and put it on as well. A knock sounded at the door and she went to answer it. Carlos stood at the door. "Hello?" She stuck her head around the corner. "Hello miss, I was sent to remind you that dinner will be at 7:00 sharp every afternoon in the dining quarters, and-" At this time Karleighanna stepped into full view and Carlos was startled by her outfit. "Um, okay, well, we'll see you there." He said, and backed away slowly before turning around and walking off. Karleighanna glanced at the big clock on the wall. 6:45. Not much time until dinner. Besides, she didn't even have an appetite, much less, she didn't wish to dine amongst her kidnapper. But she must go, they were expecting her, and it would probably be safer to be with a group of people. Karleighanna was meh when she walked into the dining quarters. A few sailors laughed and pointed, "Looks like we have a new member of the crew!" They joked. "A better looking one you mean" she hissed Karleighanna sat down in the only empty place besides two jostling men, where she was so squished she couldn't move her arms. Carlos saw her predicament and ordered them to give her some room. She smiled in thanks. Just then, the chef brought out the food, the last of the roast and some stale crackers. Not very filling. Karleighana thought sourly. She picked up her fork to stab at the meat, when Carlos noticed flakes of red on her chunk of meat. "Wait, Karleighanna, that's undercooked!" Carlos said, "I'll take it back and have him cook it longer." Karleighanna handed it to him gratefully. As Carlos was walking with the plate, one of the red flakes fell off. He thought that was strange so he picked it up and sniffed it. Poison! He raced back to the room where Karleighanna was patiently waiting and pulled her by the wrist to where the captain was. "Sir," He said as he saluted. Karleighanna was puzzled, she had no idea what was going on. "Somebody just tried to poison our guest." "What? How?" The captain cried out in unison. Karleighanna was angry. Somebody had tried to kill her? The captain was infuriated, "Whom would have done such a terrible thing?" He stomped around the tiny room. "Was it the cook?" He turned to Carlos. Shaking his head, Carlos replied, "I don't think so, sir." Turning to Karleighanna, who stood buried in her thoughts, the captain said, "Ms. Lewis, I'm afraid you will need to have your food inspected thoroughly before you eat, and you shall have to stay in your cabin instead of eating in the dining hall." Without listening, Karleighanna nodded and was led away.
