Chapter 29Angela I woke slowly. Head fuzzy. I opened my eyes, knowing the first thing I would see would be Sally. That would be lovely. I was happy with my new box. My lover box. She was gone. I looked at the clock—9:30. What? I sat up sharply. I pressed the bed where she had been, as if my touch needed to confirm what my eyes were telling me. Gone. I calmed. I knew there would be a reason, and I would have a message to explain. It’s all okay. I scrambled out of bed and grabbed my phone. Nothing. My head was starting to throb. Toilet, of course. I waited.
