Chapter Seven

742 Words
I gaze at this creature in fear at first. I took a few steps back and wanted to scream but after my eyes traveled from its paws to its face and caught sight of those green eyes again…. I c****d my head in fascination and almost wanted to pet it. At the same time of having this revelation I realize I hear… whining inside of me? Like a dog whining? What the hell? I then hear a female voice stir inside my head that I heard last night before I passed out, ‘Shift. Shift for him.’ I shake my head as if to rattle out whoever that was. What? Who are you? I’m losing my damn mind. This can’t be real. I think to myself. ‘You’re not losing your mind. I’m your wolf, Nala. I’ve been with you your whole life, I just couldn’t come out until your first shift 2 days ago on your 18th birthday.’ Nala replies in a soft tone. ‘And the wolf in front of you, is our mate’. “I was out for two days”? I say out loud, confused. “What do you mean mate”? At the mention of the word mate, Nick’s wolf jumps up happily and yips as if he’s agreeing. I pause a moment and look up, meeting the wolf’s gaze seven feet above me. “Nala is telling me to shift.” I say, slowly. The large wolf shakes his head no. He then peers back behind him at blondie who nods at him and tells me to turn around. “No, so you guys can attack me and take me back? Absolutely not”. I stubbornly reply almost instantaneously. The wolf sighs, irritated. He waits for another moment to see if I would comply but I just fold my arms and keep staring at him. He finally shakes his head and walks to the other side of the SUV with blondie following behind him with Nick’s shirt, belt and shoes. The wolf slowly starts to shrink in size behind the SUV to where I can’t see him anymore and blondie pulls out what appears to be a pair of pants from the back of the SUV. Human Nick reemerges back into view and is buttoning the cuffs on shirt while glancing at me, “You’re ridiculously stubborn, you know that”? I shrug because I can’t help but to agree with him. It's honestly what’s kept me alive so far. “You can’t shift right now because you’re still too weak. Can you please get in the car and head back to the hospital with me so we can get you looked at”? He asked again. “No-.” I reply He rolls his eyes and throws his hands up seemingly about to go on another rampage about my resistance but I cut him off before he has the chance. “But I will walk back to the hospital. You can drive back and I will meet you there. I have nowhere to run so you don’t have to fret about that happening again.” He puts his hands on his hips, shakes his head and chuckles to himself turning to sidekick blondie again. “Ben, drive up to the hospital. We’ll meet you there and have a wheelchair out front for her”. So blondie’s name is Ben. Good to know. “Not gonna need the wheelchair but thanks. See ya in a few Ben”. I retorted to both Ben and Nick, making sure they heard me. Nick rolls his eyes and starts walking toward me. I was gonna tell him I didn’t need a babysitter but honestly, having him near sounds too good to pass up and the scent of him still mesmerizes me. He stops in front of me and holds his arm as if to usher me in the opposite direction, “Shall we”? I turn on my heels and start walking back the way I came with Nick matching my pace. I tried to act annoyed as if I didn’t want to walk with him but it was hard with him walking right next to me and his arm brushing against mine causing sparks to shoot up all the way to the top of my shoulder causing goosebumps. This felt dangerous and amazing and terrifying all at the same time.
