Chapter 4: Little Moon and The Giant

Aera's Pov : “Wake up, little moon. It is time.” The soft voice was echoed deeply inside my head. It sounded like a warm breeze rustling through silver leaves. I gasped, pulling a deep breath of air into my lungs as my eyes flew open. Pain is usually a biological warning system, but right now, my body felt surprisingly numb. I blinked at the ceiling. Then I blinked again. For the first time in my nineteen years of life, the world around me wasn't a blurry, smeared mess. My thick, taped-up fake glasses were gone. My vision was crystal clear. I slowly turned my head. I wasn't in a dirty underground mafia dungeon. I was lying in a large, very clean room with warm wooden walls and soft golden lighting. It looked like a very expensive private hospital room. I tried to sit up, but a heavy weight held me down. I looked at my left leg. It was wrapped in a thick, solid cast. A clear IV tube was taped to the back of my hand, connected to a machine that was quietly beeping next to the bed. Panic instantly spiked in my chest. Where am I? Did Caleb sell me to a rich buyer? "Oh! You are awake!" I flinched violently, my hands grabbing the thick blankets and pulling them up to my chin. A woman walked into the room. She was wearing a crisp white doctor's coat, carrying a clipboard. She looked completely normal—brown hair, kind smile—but there was something intense about the way she moved. Like she was stronger than she looked. "Don't come near me!" I demanded, trying to use my fake bravado. I narrowed my eyes, making my voice sound as dangerous as possible. "I know how this works. Whatever the mafia paid you for my organs, I am not merchandise! I am wired differently, and I will destroy this entire lab if you try to touch me!" It was a complete lie. I was a 5'3" girl trapped in a bed, but I had to look tough. The doctor stopped at the foot of the bed. She didn't look scared at all. In fact, she looked incredibly amused. She offered me a warm, gentle smile. "You don't need to destroy anything, dear," she said softly. "You are perfectly safe here. My name is Dr. Elara. You gave us quite a scare. You have been unconscious for three days." My jaw dropped. "Three days?!" "Yes. You had a severe fracture in your tibia, extreme cold exposure, and you were dangerously malnourished," Dr. Elara explained, writing something on her clipboard. "But you heal surprisingly fast. How are you feeling today, Lu— I mean, Miss?" I paused, my eyes narrowing. Lu? Did she almost call me Lucy? Or Luna? What was a Luna? Was that a brand of tuna? "My name is not Lu," I said suspiciously, still gripping the blankets. "My name is Aera And I don't believe you. Human traffickers don't put people in nice beds. Who brought me here?" Dr. Elara’s smile widened slightly. She looked at my mismatched eyes but surprisingly, she didn't call me a freak. She looked at me with deep respect. "The man who brought you here is the owner of this territory," Dr. Elara said carefully. "He saved you from the dogs in the forest. You are in his hospital now." Before I could ask any more questions, the heavy wooden door of the room suddenly clicked open. The air in the room instantly changed. It felt like the oxygen was sucked out, replaced by a heavy, terrifying pressure. Dr. Elara immediately stopped talking. She lowered her clipboard, bowed her head deeply respectfully, and quickly walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. I was left completely alone with the newcomer. I slowly turned my head, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. He stood near the door, and my breath caught in my throat. He was an absolute mountain of a man, easily six-foot-four, with impossibly broad shoulders. He was wearing dark clothes, looking incredibly dangerous. I remembered him. He was the monster from the mud. He hadn't looked at me yet. He was reading a file in his hands. "I don't know who you are," I blurted out, my fear making me talk too fast. "But I told your doctor, and I am telling you! I have powers! I am very dangerous! You should let me go before I... I bite someone!" The giant man stopped flipping the pages. He slowly lowered the file. He looked at me completely frozen. Kael's Pov : I had not slept in three days. Since the night I found her bleeding in the mud, my pack had been in chaos. We had to clean up the dead bodies of the human traffickers near the border. We had to double the security patrols. I had spent seventy-two hours dealing with pack politics, rogue tracking, and border disputes. But my wolf had been completely useless the entire time. It had been pacing, growling, and aggressively demanding that I return to the hospital to see her. Mate, my wolf whined constantly. Weakness, my brain snapped back. I was thirty-five years old. I am the supreme Alpha and I ruled through fear. I did not need a mate. I did not want a mate. I had convinced myself over the last three days that the girl I saved was just a human. A fragile, weak human who smelled unusually sweet. Once her leg healed, I was going to send her away and forget about her. I finally finished my pack duties and walked into the hospital to check on the human problem. As I opened the door to her room, Dr. Elara bowed and slipped past me. I picked up her medical file, reading her vitals. Normal human recovery rate. Nothing special. Then, a tiny, squeaky voice echoed from the bed. "I have powers! I am very dangerous! You should let me go before I... I bite someone!" I lowered the file, ready to tell the ridiculous human girl to be quiet. I looked at the bed. My heart completely stopped in my chest. The file slipped from my fingers and hit the floor with a soft slap. She was sitting up against the pillows, clutching the blankets like a shield. Without the dark night and the heavy rain hiding her features, I finally saw her face clearly. She wasn't just beautiful. She was breathtaking. But that wasn't what paralyzed my body. It was her eyes. One was a pure, glowing Silver, like a calm moon reflecting on deep water. The other was a brilliant, burning Gold, like the destructive fire of the sun. I stared at her, completely frozen. My breath hitched in my throat. Not human. The realization hit me like a physical punch. She wasn't human at all. Beneath the scent of her, I could feel an ancient, thrumming energy radiating from her tiny body. It was an energy so old and so incredibly powerful that my violent, bloodthirsty Alpha wolf—the beast that bowed to no one—suddenly whimpered and dropped its head in absolute submission. "What are you?" I whispered. My voice was a rough, breathless rumble. "I told you! I'm dangerous! " she snapped back, trying to look intimidating but only looking like an angry, adorable kitten. I stared into her mismatched eyes. My brain was screaming at me to walk away, to reject this dangerous unknown creature before she became a liability. But looking at her fierce, sassy little face, I knew I had already lost the war And heaven help the world, because my wolf had already decided she was ours.
