They arrested Him at mid-night, He
was in the garden for prayer.
He was identified by Judas Iscariot
who led the soldiers there.
He kissed Jesus on the cheek- it
wasn’t necessary for him to talk
Then the soldiers made everyone
stand in line along the side walk.
Jesus made no attempt to escape,
nor did He show any sign of fear,
But He showed compassion when
Peter sliced off an officer’s ear.
Jesus picked up the fallen ear and
cleaned off the grime,
Then attached it back to the head
of the man just in time.
“You have the right to remain silent,
be careful what you say,”
Said their leader as he gently nudged
his soldiers out of the way .
Fortunately no other arrests were
made that night,
Sensing the danger everyone moved
quickly out of sight.
According to another reporter who
arrived at the scene a little late,
Jesus was handcuffed before they
led Him towards the city gate,
As they passed through the entrance
the crowd grew in number.
It seemed like the whole town awoke
from its peaceful slumber.
The crowd shouted, swore and spat
at the defenseless Man,
Then followed the beating so harsh
He could barely stay still.
It was early the morning when they
took Him before the high priest,
Where a pretrial took place with no
legal defense and no bond release.
No one in the crowd could come up
with a definite accusation .
“Are you the Son of God?” they
asked as part of their interrogation.
The answer Jesus gave didn’t please
any one in that hall,
Thus resulting in another beating
that caused Him to fall.
I could see that the crowd was
stirred into a frenzy
They were intent on stripping Him
of His dignity.
I was hoping that some brave person
would show some sympathy.
The man whose ear Jesus had just
healed, I wondered – would he?
The look of terror he had in the
garden just a few hours ago,
Was replaced by a look of one
who was enjoying the show.
