“AND THE OSCAR GOES TO”

444 Words
For some time the church had been preparing for the Oscar presentation. The nominees for a sincere Christian were the Pastor and his congregation. The red carpet was out and everyone was ready for the grand event, The church was packed by visitors to whom invitations were sent. As usual most of the church members and the leaders were late, They weren’t aware that Jesus would be doing the welcome at the front gate. Each congregant was hoping to be the winner that day But in all fairness Jesus was going to have the final say. At nine fifteen Jesus entered the church to start the singing, No organist, so they sang acapella which set the rafters ringing. At nine thirty the Elder walked in just as the service began Entering while all were seated was just part of his winning plan. And so the speculation started as to who would be the winner No one at church wanted to stay labeled as a sinner. Would it be the Pastor who claims To be everyone’s friend? Or the youth leader who introduced a new up beat trend? Is it the Welfare Leader, who always supplies parcels for lunch? Please don’t rely on my speculation It’s just my personnel hunch. At nine fifty Mrs X, the best dressed of that church made a grand entry, If she knew that Jesus was there she would’ve dressed appropriately. Just after the usual welcome Jesus was ready to announce His choice Each member was hoping to win so that they would have cause to rejoice. Everyone gave their full attention wondering who would it be. “The Oscar goes to the thief,” said Jesus, “who hung next to Me” When Jesus hung on the cross He hung next to a thieving sinner Because he accepted Jesus in his dying moments he was the winner. The man never read the Bible and never sang a gospel song All his life he was only interested In doing what was wrong. He never returned a tithe as all the saints would Money was there to enjoy as many pleasures as he could. Because of the wicked life he lived his destiny was on the cross. But Jesus forgave him and assured him that he would not be lost. So one day when he is asked in heaven “Who are you and how did get in?” He will say, ”the man on the middle cross said come I’ve forgiven your sin It was then that I awoke from my dream drenched in sweat. A dream that made me think and one that I won’t easily forget.
