The pack house was far grander than Emmaline’s cozy little home, but she was adjusting to it quicker than she’d expected. Her new quarters, shared with Carter, were luxurious and spacious, but what Emmaline loved most was the freedom she felt within their private space.
Carter, however, was quickly discovering that living with Emmaline came with its challenges.
She sauntered through their bedroom, wearing nothing but a sheer black lingerie set that clung to her curves and left very little to the imagination. Her hips swayed as she walked, her curls bouncing with every step.
Carter sat at the desk near the window, papers and maps spread out before him as he worked. Or at least, tried to work. His grip on the pen tightened as he caught sight of her out of the corner of his eye.
“Emmaline,” he growled, his tone low and full of warning.
“Yes, Alpha?” she teased, spinning to face him with a smirk. “Something on your mind?”
His gaze raked over her, his wolf growling possessively in his chest. “You’re impossible,” he muttered, running a hand down his face in frustration.
She laughed, walking over to him and perching on the edge of the desk. Her fingers traced the edge of a map absentmindedly. “I’m just getting comfortable in my new home. Isn’t that what you wanted?”
Carter leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing as he looked up at her. “You know exactly what you’re doing.”
“Of course I do,” she said, leaning closer so their faces were inches apart. Her voice dropped to a whisper. “And you love it.”
Before he could respond, she straightened and walked away, leaving him to simmer in the wake of her teasing.
Despite her penchant for driving him mad, Emmaline was thriving in her role as Luna. She had thrown herself into training, stepping up to lead sessions with the warriors.
On the training grounds, she was a force to be reckoned with. Her movements were sharp and calculated as she demonstrated a series of defensive maneuvers to a group of younger wolves.
“Again,” she barked, watching as the warriors paired off to practice. “Don’t hesitate. Your opponent won’t give you a second chance.”
The respect she commanded was evident in the way the pack followed her instructions without question. They had fully embraced her as their Luna, and she had earned every bit of it.
By the time the session ended, Emmaline was covered in a light sheen of sweat, her muscles humming with satisfaction. She loved the feeling of pushing herself, of proving her worth not just as Carter’s mate but as a leader in her own right.
As the warriors dispersed, Carter appeared at the edge of the clearing, his arms crossed as he watched her. There was pride in his eyes, but also a hint of frustration—likely leftover from her antics earlier.
“You’re relentless,” he said as she approached him, her smile wide and unapologetic.
“Someone has to keep them on their toes,” she replied, stopping in front of him.
Carter reached out, tucking a stray curl behind her ear. “You’re doing an incredible job, Emmy. The pack is lucky to have you.”
She grinned, leaning into his touch. “I know.”
Their partnership extended beyond the training grounds. In meetings with the pack council, Emmaline brought a fresh perspective, her ideas bold and innovative. She and Carter worked together seamlessly, their bond making them an unstoppable team.
But when the work was done, she never missed an opportunity to keep him on edge. Whether it was lounging on the couch in nothing but one of his shirts or whispering wicked promises in his ear during meetings, Emmaline was determined to keep their dynamic fiery and fun.
“You’re going to drive me insane,” Carter muttered one evening as she curled up beside him on the couch, her lips brushing against his neck.
“That’s the plan,” she whispered, her voice laced with mischief.
And while she pushed his buttons every chance she got, they both knew he wouldn’t have it any other way. Together, they were a perfect balance of chaos and control—a pair destined to lead the pack into its brightest future yet.
