Michaela  The train station was swarming, bustling with people and scents. Gabriel, resting his head sleepily on my shoulder as I carried him, whimpered at the noise. Part of me wanted to do the same.  My nerves were taut with anxiety – after weeks in the safe house, I felt vulnerable and exposed as I pushed through the unfamiliar crowds.  Suddenly an announcement blared overhead, making me and Gabriel both flinch. “Delay on line two,” a mechanical voice proclaimed. “Repeat: delay on line two.”  I checked my tickets – that was our train. Rushing to the nearest information desk, I barked at a sleepy-eyed young employee, “How long is the delay?”  She blinked. “Unfortunately, ma’am, there’s been a mechanical failure.
