Chapter 7: The Beast That Even Alphas Fear

1105 Words
The howl echoed again. Louder this time. Stronger. The entire territory fell into complete silence. Even the corrupted wolves stopped attacking. Nyra noticed it immediately. Fear. Not from the warriors. Not from herself. From the monsters. The creatures that had been attacking moments ago now backed away slowly, their glowing red eyes fixed toward the darkness beyond the shattered gates. As if something worse had arrived. Nyra’s pulse quickened. The air suddenly became heavier, colder, harder to breathe. The warriors exchanged nervous glances. One of them whispered shakily, “It can’t be…” Zayden’s expression darkened instantly. “Get everyone inside the castle,” he ordered. The command snapped through the courtyard sharply. No one hesitated. The warriors immediately began moving. But Nyra remained frozen beside him. “What’s happening?” she asked quietly. Zayden didn’t answer immediately. His eyes stayed fixed on the darkness outside the gates. Then finally— “The beast is here.” Nyra frowned. “What beast?” A deep growl interrupted her. The sound alone shook the ground beneath her feet. Nyra’s breath caught instantly. Slowly… Something massive emerged from the shadows. At first she only saw glowing crimson eyes. Then claws. Then dark fur soaked in blood. The creature stepped fully into the moonlight. Nyra’s stomach dropped. It was enormous. Far larger than the corrupted wolves. Its body looked twisted unnaturally, muscles shifting beneath torn flesh while black veins spread across its skin like poison. Its red eyes locked directly onto the castle. Onto her. Nyra instinctively stepped backward. Fear crawled violently through her chest. “What is that thing?” she whispered. One of the warriors answered before Zayden could. “A Blood Fang…” The fear in his voice made Nyra’s heart pound harder. The creature growled again, revealing rows of massive teeth stained dark red. It looked hungry. And angry. The Blood Fang suddenly took one step forward. The corrupted wolves instantly lowered themselves in submission. Nyra realized something terrifying. This thing controlled them. The creature’s eyes slowly shifted toward her again. Then— It smiled. Not like a human. Not normal. But somehow… It understood exactly who she was. Nyra’s blood ran cold. “Why is it looking at me like that?” she whispered. Zayden stepped in front of her instantly. Blocking her completely from view. His voice dropped lower than before. “Do not look into its eyes.” Nyra frowned slightly. “Why?” The Blood Fang growled again. This time, Zayden’s shadows spread violently across the ground around them. “Because it will recognize you.” Nyra’s heartbeat stopped for a second. Recognize her? Before she could ask what he meant— The Blood Fang attacked. The massive creature lunged forward with terrifying speed, destroying the remaining gates completely as warriors scattered in panic. The ground cracked beneath its weight. Nyra gasped. It was heading directly toward them. Toward her. But Zayden didn’t move. Didn’t step back. Didn’t flinch. Instead— A dark smile slowly appeared on his face. Dangerous. Excited. Like he had been waiting for this. The shadows around him exploded violently into the air as golden light burned inside his eyes. Nyra stared at him in shock. For the first time— The ruthless Alpha King looked less human… And more like a monster himself. The howl echoed again. Louder this time. Stronger. The entire territory fell into complete silence.
