Chapter 3: Welcome to the Territory of the Ruthless Alpha

825 Words
Chapter 3: The Territory of the Ruthless Alpha Nyra didn’t realize how far she had been taken until the gates closed behind them. A loud metallic sound echoed through the night. CLANG. The final seal. Her stomach dropped. She turned sharply. Behind her stood towering black iron gates covered in strange carvings—ancient symbols that looked almost alive under the moonlight. “Where is this…?” she whispered. Zayden kept walking. “You’ll learn soon enough,” he said. Nyra hesitated before following him again, her steps slower now. The air here was different. Heavier. Stranger. Like the land itself was watching her. Massive stone structures rose in the distance—dark castles shaped like something between a fortress and a beast. Nyra’s heart tightened. This was not a pack house. This was something else. “Why did you bring me here?” she asked again, louder this time. Zayden finally stopped. This time, he didn’t turn around immediately. “I don’t repeat myself,” he said coldly. Nyra clenched her fists. “Then explain it the first time!” Silence. Then slowly, he turned. The wind moved behind him, lifting the edges of his dark coat. Golden eyes locked onto hers. For a second, everything went still. Then— “You belong to me now,” he said. Nyra’s breath caught. “That’s not true,” she snapped. “I don’t belong to anyone!” A faint shift in his expression. Like he found that amusing. “You were offered,” he said. “I accepted.” Nyra shook her head. “I’m not an object—” Zayden stepped closer. Nyra stepped back instantly. But there was nowhere to go. The gate behind her. The Alpha in front. Trapped. His voice dropped lower. “You will obey here,” he said. “Or you will break here.” Nyra’s chest tightened. “I will survive here,” she said firmly. A pause. Then something changed in his eyes. Interest. Sharp. Dangerous. “You still think this is about survival?” he asked quietly. Nyra frowned. Zayden leaned slightly closer. Not touching her. But close enough that her breathing faltered. “This is not survival,” he said. “This is ownership.” Nyra’s heart pounded violently. Before she could respond— A loud growl echoed somewhere inside the territory. Deep. Close. Not human. Nyra froze. “What was that?” she whispered. Zayden didn’t look away from her. “Your first lesson,” he said calmly. Nyra’s eyes widened. “Lesson?” The sound came again. Closer this time. Zayden finally stepped aside, revealing the darkness behind him. “You wanted to know where you are,” he said. Nyra’s breath trembled. “Yes…” Zayden’s golden eyes darkened slightly. “Welcome to my territory,” he said. Another growl. Louder. Nyra took a slow step back, her heart racing as the sound in the darkness grew louder. It wasn’t just a growl anymore. It was movement. Something heavy was shifting inside the shadows of Zayden’s territory. She turned her head slightly toward him. “What is that?” she asked again, her voice quieter now. Zayden didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he studied her reaction. Like he was waiting for something. Testing her. Then finally, he spoke. “If you cannot handle the noise of my territory,” he said calmly, “you will not survive the silence inside it.” Nyra frowned. “That makes no sense.” A faint pause. Then Zayden took one step closer. The air immediately tightened again. “Everything here has a purpose,” he said. “Fear is one of them.” Nyra swallowed hard. She hated how controlled he was. How nothing seemed to shake him. But she refused to show fear. Even as the shadows behind him shifted again. “What happens if I refuse to be afraid?” she asked quietly. For the first time, something flashed in his eyes. Not anger. Not boredom. Interest. “You will learn faster than the others,” he said. Before she could respond— A figure emerged from the darkness. Tall. Twisted in shape. Not fully human. Nyra froze instantly. Her breath caught in her throat. “What… is that?” she whispered. Zayden finally turned his head slightly toward the creature. His voice remained calm. “Your first mistake,” he said, “is thinking you are safe here.” Nyra slowly turned her head toward the sound. And in the shadows— Something moved. Something watching her back. Author's Note ❤️ Thank you so much for reading Owned by the Ruthless Alpha! Your support means the world to me.
