“Grandpa, can we get a tree?” Jade asked when they were eating breakfast. He looked up to see two pairs of eyes watching him for his response. “Sure, that’s a great idea.” “And can Nana come?” asked Amber. He tried not to scowl. He had learned to tolerate her coming over at dinnertime, had even had a reasonably good conversation the last time—though why she was so crabby when she mentioned the band trip they took to Montreal, he had no idea. He remembered it being fun. “I think Nana is too busy at the store this time of year to take a weekend morning to get a tree.” And it had to be the morning.
