“What did you think of the sailpast?” Kathleen asked the girls, keeping her eyes on them and away from Roy. He was watching her every move, and his lips reminded her too much of the kisses they’d just shared. Kissing Roy Davies was the last thing she’d expected to do tonight, and now doing it again was all she could think about.
“It was great, Nana,” said Amber.
“Is it time for the surprise yet, Grandpa?” Jade asked.
“What surprise?” asked Kathleen, turning toward Roy.
“The girls and I have been doing some work over the last couple of days. Tell you what—put on your warm coats, and we’ll go take a look.”
“The surprise is outside?” What were these three up to?
“Nope!” said Amber, but she covered her mouth when both Roy and Jade said, “Shhh!”
