The servant took the bowl with a bow then left them alone. Andre faced himself away from Voi as he opened the envelope. She could only make out a stamp on the corner before his broad shoulders blocked her view. The Ministry of Defense… He continued reading in silence. “What is it?” Voi asked, very well knowing the answer. “Hmm? Oh, nothing.” He put on a forced smile, stuffing the letter away in his pocket before extending his hand. “Come on, Voi. There’s something I want to show you.” After staring at his hand briefly, she took it. “Alright.” They walked through a dark paneled hallway, where nude busts of various figures—their surfaces rather aged, to Voi’s eye—glowed from sconce-lit niches that were evenly spaced throughout the passageway.
