Inside Pete's home, the living room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. He hadn't tried to hide the phone call he'd made to Nicola from the others. He'd fully believed that if he deigned to offer her an out, she'd meekly move back home this very afternoon. He'd even ordered grocery delivery for the meal.
