December 23rd - Jackson

December 23rd  Jackson O'Donnell   What a f*****g p***y! If Chase wasn’t my best friend I’d have beaten his ass over a month ago when he first started being mopey. So what if he and the hot brunette Summer broke up? He needs to get his head back in the game and stop getting these nasty boners in my room. If I didn't know him as well as I do, I’d start to think he was gay the way he keeps popping them at my house all the time.   It almost seems like I know him better than he knows himself lately. I can see the looks of longing he was always throwing  Mazey's way before her and her ex broke up. Just because they were together and happy he seemed to hate them, almost avoid them like some kind of plague. He needs to get over his s**t, he would have left her come spring anyways to ship out and start the rest of our lives. Honestly no one deserves to be left behind and worrying while someone they care about is away fighting for their country and doing god knows what. We should know this better than anyone, it is after all  how we lost our fathers and our mother became so close with each other.    Just as I’m about to turn out my light my mom peeks her head in after a quiet knock to say goodnight.    “Hey Jack, keep in mind we have an early morning tomorrow” she says quietly trying not to disturb Chase’s fake sleeping.    “I know mom, we are calling it a night now” Smiling at my response she starts to close the door and leave the room. At the last second she seems to change her mind and look back at me.    “For what it’s worth Jack, I’d listen to Chase on this one. I know you’re just trying to help, but I think this vacation is going to be a big deal for all of us, one full of surprises.” And with her piece said she closes the door and walks away before I get the chance to answer her.   My mom has always had this freaky ability to know what’s coming, or have some idea of it. She even knew on my dad's last tour that something wasn't right. I remember her telling us to each give him an extra hug and more love before he left. Only thing is that she also tends to be over dramatic more often than not so I'm not sure how much faith I should be putting into her warning.    “So, you’re dropping this stupid bet thing now, right?” Chase asks from the floor, scaring me out of my own thoughts.    “Not a chance man! Get some Z’s we’ve got an early flight and I’ve got a bet to win.” I say with a wink and click off my light.    Shit I really hope this is the right choice, but I mean, what’s the worst that can happen... right?
