Chapter 2

Katie’s POV

Current day

“Come on, down your drink and let’s go” I said.  “I’ve already ordered our ride it will be here any minute”

Summer finished off her drink, we stepped outside and I locked the front door.  Just as I was doing that our ride pulled up.

When our ride pulled up outside our local bar I could see it was already starting to get a crowed.  Summer noticed it too “come on Summer let’s get in there before we miss out on a table”.  I got out of the car, came around to my side grabbed Summer’s hand and dragged her towards the entrance.  Summer was laughing at her “thirsty?” I turned to her with a huge grin on my face “yip and Jason is going to be working the bar tonight” Summer pulled me to a holt “not the Jason you keep trying to hook me up with?” she said exasperated.  “Don’t get pissed with me, you haven’t been on a  date in months. The guy is s*x on a stick.

Go out on one date with him if you don’t like him after that then I’ll leave it and you can keep being a nun.  Do we have a deal?” I said sounding too pleased with myself. 

With an exhale she said “deal”.  “Great, let’s go in and grab us a table.”

The first person we saw when we walked into the bar was Jason, when he saw us a huge smile spread across his face and his eyes had a sparkle in them.   “Hi” I said and waved to him while dragging Summer behind me by the hand as we approached the bar.  “What can I get you lovely ladies to drink?”  We both ordered a beer, side a fries and BBQ wings.  I was trying to get a conversation started with Jason while trying to involve Summer in on it but she wasn’t having a bar of it, she stood there silently listening.  Jason kept staring in Summer’s direction throughout the whole conversation, Summer must have noticed because I could see a red heat rising up from her chest to her face, she had turned a bright red.

Summer slipped in between a brake in our conversation and said “come Katie lets go grab a favorite seat before someone takes it.” With an inquisitive look “sure, come on then”. 

We managed to grab our favorite table before it was taken, it was the one in the corner by the pool tables.  You can see everyone in that position in the bar.  We sat down and Summer looked at me with one brow raised but I didn’t say anything and I didn’t mention her lack of interest in Jason instead I talked about safer topics like my family.  

“Gabriel will be stepping into his role as Alpha because my dad is looking to step down soon which means my mother will step down as pack Luna.” 

“James, Gabriel’s best friend will be the new Beta but is still acting like a dog on heat.  James is nothing but a pig” I said with a bit too much fury which Summer noticed. 

“Gees Katie anyone would think you like the guy or you just really hate him with that tone.”  Smirking she added “HEY!!  Do you think he could be your true mate?” 

I nearly choked on my beer.  “No way, James is nothing but a man w***e in search of his next b***h to f**k.  Besides James doesn’t like me, he has never shown any interest in me, even though I had a secrete crush on him.  James and Gab hated me hanging around them, I would try to hang out with them but they didn’t want a little kid c**k blocking them and would tell me to piss off so whenever they did something naughty I would tell on them to mum and dad.”  I said laughing “I suppose that didn’t help my situation.”

“I suppose.  Anyway how do you know James isn’t your mate?” said Katie.

“I don’t know for sure.  As a werewolf you can only feel the mating pull after you 21st birthday, I wasn’t around James when he turned 21.  I haven’t seen him since he left for school at 18, I was 10 years old at the time.  I haven’t seen James or Gabriel for 8 years.”

”Wow, 8 years is a long time” Katie said sounding shocked. “Why haven’t you seen them in all that time, I mean you must have seen them when you went home to visit the family?”

“Yeah it’s a long time.  With Gab and James going to school for 4 years, then traveling for 3 years after that, by the time they arrived home I had already left for school.”

 “Yeah but what about after you graduated, you went home to visit the family, you must have bumped into him?” asked Summer.

“No I didn’t.  Whenever I went home for a visit they were either off doing something for the pack, which kept them away the whole time I was there or they were in town f*****g all the available human females they could get their hands on.”  I said gnashing my teeth.

I took and deep breathe and exhaled to calm myself down.  I don’t know why I get so pissed off every time I think about James with other woman.  It’s not like I like the guy and I was only a little girl the last time we saw each other.  The only reason I know what James and Gab have been up to is because Xavier, Troy and Ethan fill me in on all the glory details.

“Anyway, 8 years is a long time but to a werewolf it’s only a blip in our life span.” I said trying to move the conversion onto something different.  Which it worked

“What do you mean?”  Asked Summer with a confused look.

“I mean werewolves are kind of immortal but not.”

Katie looked stunned, “what do you mean immortal.  Can you live forever?”

“Well not forever but for a very long time, the oldest known werewolf to live was over 1000 years old.  We age very slowly but we can be killed.” I told Katie.

“How?” Katie looked intrigued but this new information.

“I not sure of how we live for such a long time.  Killing a werewolf a challenge, removing the heart or head is a sure fire way to kill a werewolf.  Silver or Quick Silver also known as liquid mercury in small doses can weaken us but with enough in our bodies it can kill us.”

“Remind me never to get you any silver jeweler for a gift to you.” Katie said giggling.
