Chapter 5

Brian POV

“Doug, Alpha William of the Dark Moon Pack has requested an audience to discuss a future alliance between our packs.” I said to my beta and best friend.  “He wants to meet here in two days to talk.  He will be bringing his mate, son and beta to the meet.”

“Why would he want an alliance with us?  He is the largest, strongest pack in the state, no one would dear try to challenge him or his pack, it is suicide.” Doug said with a frown.  He looked like how I feel and he voiced it.  “I have a bad feeling about this.  Why and what could he want with this so called alliance?”  I sat there in my chair behind my desk thinking the same thing, why would he and what could he gain from this.  I had an idea but I hope to our great Luna that it wasn’t what I was thinking. I didn’t voice my thoughts because I’m praying I am wrong.

I stood there staring out the window to my conference room, my back to the door waiting for Alpha William and his party to arrive.  “They should be arriving soon” my mate said approaching me, she came up behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist while embracing me. That was how distracted I was, I didn’t even hear her come in.  She must have notice “you are so distracted my love, you need to wait and see what he has to say before you start worrying yourself into an early grave.  If it is bad news we will deal with this together, united, as mates.”

I sighed “I know, I know you are right, I just can’t help thinking at the end of this meeting I’m going to hate myself for what I am going to need to do.”

“Like I said mate of mine, we will work this out together.  I love you.” She said while kissing me on the back of the neck.  I turned so I was now facing her and lend down and touched her lips with mine.  It was only supposed to be a peck but my desire rose for my mate and I deepened the kiss, she moaned, but before I could take it further I heard footsteps approaching and pulled away “someone is coming” I smiled at her frustrated look because I felt the same way. She straightened her clothing and plastered a smile on her face acting like nothing had happen, but whoever it was would be able to small the lust in the air coming off the both of use, not that I care.  She is my mate; true mates can never keep their hands off each other.

Doug walked entered and cleared his throat; I could tell he could smell it but he acted like nothing was different. “Brian” Doug was the only one apart from my family who I allowed to call me by my name, he was my dearest friend, and we grew up together.  He shows the respect of my position when we are in front of company by address in as alpha.  “Alpha William and his party are arriving.”  I dipped my head in acknowledgment, grabbed my mates hand and followed Doug out to greet our guest. 

The meeting

Alpha William didn’t beat around the bush “I want to unit our packs!”  Everyone from pack glared at the alpha for his announcement, I arched a brow at him “is that so, and who so you think I would think this is a grand idea?”  He grind “I know you are having a lot of problems with rouges, with our packs united we can wipe out the problem.”  “We are handling the rouges, and there is no way I am handing over my pack to you” I said with a grim face looking him straight in the eyes.  “What is the real reason for this meeting?” I asked, I was tired with this bull s**t, I wanted to know what he wanted.  “There is a war coming.  They call themselves ‘The Blood Phantoms’.  They are outcast vampires, sorceress and rouges that are proving to be more difficult to eliminate.”  Everyone was quite, deep in thought with the news we just received. William broke the silence “they are attacking the packs and covens on the other side of the country, slowly making their way towards us.  I would say we have 8 months to a year if we are lucky before they reach us, that is if they are not stopped.”  I exhaled, gathered my thoughts “We unit our packs as a partnership to fight, we work together as a team.” William was shaking his head “you know that won’t work, our people will fight amongst each other even if we are on the same team, there is too much bad blood between our packs.”  I growled.  It was that sick bastard Patrick, a member of their pack, the Dark Moon Pack .  He was a mean son of a b***h who would beat and rape his own mate before he ended up killing her.  She had suffered one to many beatings and it took its tool on her poor body when it finally gave up.   Later that day he ended up kidnaping 8 teenage girls from our packed, raped them beat them and decapitated them while dumping them at our boarder for their families to find.  When the searched his house for him they only found his dead mate, he had disappeared with his son and daughter.

“The only way this will work is if we unit the packs as one or your daughter is to mate with my son Trevor. It can only work with a mating between our packs” Gabriel stood up out of his seat so fast he knocked it over behind him.  I looked at him and telepathically spoke to him “calm yourself son, sit down and allow me to handle this” he nodded, grabbed his chair then sat.  William was watching, I could see he was assessing if he was a threat.  “You must allow us time to discuss this, especially with our daughter.”  William smirked; he of all people knew the battle I had ahead of me when I spoke to Katie about his proposal.  He has a daughter himself, all she wolves strong minded beings.

“Very well, we will return Saturday next week for dinner if that is alright with you?  Trevor and Katie can be introduced” said William.

We said our farewells and they left but the discussion wasn’t over.  Ann, Doug and Gabriel rounded on me but it was only Doug and Gabriel who said anything “You can’t be seriously considering that proposal of mating Katie with his son?”  I growled at them to submit to their alpha, they did baring their neck to me in submission.  “1st, I am your alpha, remember that.  2nd, it is not my decision to make, it is Katie’s.”  Gabriel growled “you can’t be serious?”  I bared my teeth and stared him in the eye, he kept eye contact for a few seconds then looked away proving I am still the alpha of this pack, I am still the dominate wolf “Yes, I am serious.  It is Katie’s choice; I will not make this life changing decision for her.  I will explain the situation to her, if she agrees with the mating that is up to her but if she refuses then I will need to think of another way to solve our problems.”  Ann grabbed my hand and squeezed it while smiling at me.  “Your alpha is right, there is nothing more we can do until we talk to you sister.”  “Yes alpha” Gabriel and Doug both said then left.

I turned to Ann “So when are you going to call Katie and give her the news?” she laughed “I don’t think so my big brave alpha, we will talk to her together.” She was still laughing at me “Well is my big strong mate afraid of his daughter?”  “What do you expect, she is exactly like her bloody mother.” I said laughing with her while she slapped me on the arm while leading me to my office so we could make the dreaded call to our only daughter, our baby girl.

The Phone Call

Katie POV

“Hey dad!” “Hi baby girl.  How are you?”  I was happy to hear from my dad, we haven’t spoken for a couple weeks and I missed him.  “I’m good dad.  What’s up? You never call me during work hours, you are usually too busy.”  Dad released a loud sigh “your mom is here, we need to talk to you about something very important.” “Hi honey, you are on speaker” came from my mom.  “Ok, you are starting to scare me. What’s wrong?”  “Before we tell you I just want to let you know that whatever decision you make your mom and I will stand by you.  We both love you very much.” I was starting to get nervous; it must be something truly important for dad to give me that little speech.  I took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. “Just tell me dad, you and mom are making me nervous.” And that is when my day turned to s**t.  They both told me what had happen in the meeting and the proposal for the mating between Trevor and myself.  To say I was in shock was a bit of an understatement.  They had finished talking and I had yet to say anything “Katie, I know this is a lot to take in, you don’t have to give us an answer strai….” I cut my mum off before she could finished “It’s ok mom, I’ll do it.”  “Baby girl, you don’t have give us an answer now we can wait, give you time to think”  “No dad it’s ok, my answer is yes.  It’s for the good of the pack, as the alphas daughter it is my duty and honor.  Anyway it is time for me to come back home and take care of my responsibilities.”  “You don’t have too, we can find another way.”  “No mom it’s ok, this is easier for everyone.  I am happy to do this for our pack.”

We talked about other random things but all I could think about was my life was going to change for ever.  “well, I got to go” “ok baby girl/dear” my parents said at the same time.  “Before you go, Alpha William, his mate and Trevor will be coming for dinner next Saturday so you can meet him.”  “Ok mom, I’ll be the.”  We said our goodbyes and hung up.  I sat there and all I could do was cry.
