Chapter 17: Magic Vine

1205 Words
Dum and Lao Niu were driving back to Damo. They passed a village and saw villagers running. Lao Niu stopped the car and looked at the villagers running away. "Dum, what's going on in the village?" Lao Niu told Dum. "Let's go see!" Dum got out and walked to the village, followed by Lao Niu. The two men walked to the village entrance, where Ah Dai stopped a villager running away. "Elder, what happened?" "Why are you stopping me?" The tree in the village is killing people. The village chief and guards are fighting! "We have to hide!" The old man broke free and ran away. The villagers were running away from the village. The two of them followed the crowd in the opposite direction to the place where the tree had become a demon. They saw a Bengali banyan tree attacking the villagers. The village chief was commanding the guards to attack with fire, but the fire forks stuck in the tree wouldn't burn it! The tree spirit was enraged and let out a human voice, roaring angrily. The vines wrapped around three young men from the village guard and they died. Two other young men had already been strangled by the tree vines at the root! "Lao Niu, save them!" Ah Dai didn't move but looked at the situation and called out to Lao Niu. "Village Chief, tell everyone to stand down!" Lao Niu leapt into the air. He swung his sword and cut the vines. The three young men fell next to the tree roots. The village chief and others wanted to help the injured men, but the vines were too strong. A-dai shook his head and walked towards the tree roots. The tree spirit sent the vines to attack A-dai. But as soon as the tree vines came near, a flash of lightning hit A-dai, destroying them. "Roar. Who are you?" The Banyan Spirit asked in a low voice. Dum stood at the tree roots, expressionless. He picked up one lad and carried another on his shoulders. He walked out, put the three lads on the ground, and pressed his hands against their chests. He woke up one lad with a push. He woke up the other two lads the same way. Meanwhile, Lao Niu cut all the branches off the banyan tree with his knife. He saw a big eye and mouth growing on the banyan tree spirit. It asked, "Who are you?" "It doesn't matter who we are. "You hurt people. Today I'll do justice for the heavens!" Lao Niu said angrily. "Please spare me!" The banyan tree spirit begged. Its eyes were dripping with sap. The old ox was still there. This evil tree spirit killed at the slightest sign of life. He raised his knife to kill it. "Wait, old ox!" Ah Dai stopped him. "Huh?" The old ox looked at Ah Dai. Duh stepped forward and said, "It's not a tree demon!" The old ox looked at Duh and said, "Then what is it?" He thought the banyan tree was a spirit, so why did they say it wasn't a tree demon? Duh thought for a moment and said, "A magic vine!" "Magic vine?" "Yes!" Duh asked the village chief, "Is there a magician in your village?" The old village chief was surprised and said, "Yes, sir. Sixty years ago, there was a powerful magician in our village." He came back injured and knew he was dying. He asked the village chief to bury him under the banyan tree he had planted. This is the evil tree. Ah Dai looked at the banyan tree and said, "Do you remember where you came from?" The banyan tree said, "I don't remember, sir." I started to become conscious about half a year ago. Every full moon, my magical abilities grew stronger. Then I was told that drinking human blood would free me from the earth, and I was bewitched! That's why we're in this situation. "Okay, I understand!" "Do you want to live or die?" Ah-dai looked at the tree and said, "Coldly." "Please, Mr. Xu, don't kill me!" the tree begged. "Give half your magic to save the two who are still alive!" Ah-dai ordered. The banyan tree shook and two purple magical essences entered the two dying lads. The two young men woke up. The village chief took them to the infirmary. "Next, I'll mark your roots with the Thunder Contract." If you keep hurting people, you'll see what thunder and lightning can do. Ah Dui opened his palm and a ball of lightning formed. The lightning disappeared into the banyan tree roots. "Ficus, do you have any complaints?" Ah Dai asked. "Sir, I have no complaints. "You're saving my soul, and I'm grateful." "Good!" Ah Dai looked at the village chief and said, "Mr. Ficus won't hurt anyone again, so you don't have to worry!" The villagers were grateful. The young man's father knelt and cried. "Thank you, Grand Master, for saving my son!" Lao Niu helped the uncle up. "You don't need to do this. It was just a small favor!" Mr. Banyan said, "I'm sorry. I'm to blame for what happened today." "I'm sorry." The village chief and the others didn't know what to say and looked at Duh and Lao Niu. A-dai walked in front of the banyan tree. After a moment, he said, "To break free from the earth, the energy of heaven and earth is best for cultivation. Human blood is not necessary!" The banyan tree was happy to hear this. It had thought it would never become human and was very sad. As soon as it heard Ah Dai say this, it said, "Please, sir, give me some pointers!" Ah Dai didn't answer, but looked at the village chief. "Send someone every day to the spring three miles east to get a bucket of water to water the banyan tree." The spring water in the east is full of spiritual energy and will help the banyan tree grow! "Yes, sir!" "I'll remember that!" the village chief promised. A-Dui could have destroyed the banyan tree, but he sensed that it had magical power, so he let it live. It might be useful as a tree spirit in the future! The tree spirit hadn't drunk human blood, so he decided to give it a chance. "Banyan Tree, use your magic well." You will become a tree spirit soon! "The Thunder Covenant will be lifted, and I will find you!" "I won't forget your teachings!" The banyan tree said thank you. After this was settled, people told the villagers who had taken refuge, and many returned home. The village chief got the villagers to water the banyan tree with mountain spring water. The mountain spring was close to the village, and they returned quickly. The banyan tree was baptized by the mountain spring and grew well. It grew new branches and leaves. The villagers wanted to thank Ah Dai and Lao Niu, but they left. The village chief and villagers saw them off. They had delayed solving the banyan spirit problem for a long time. Lao Niu drove the cart quickly, but it would take nearly two hours to reach Damohe City.
